It's so odd to see Elliot go away completely from small ball. Runners on first and second there with no outs. I get you're in the middle of your lineup but dang that's frustrating to watch.

Amazing game. This team has so many pieces and could really become something this year....

That being said, we need Avent to really shape up. He mismanaged the game pretty badly tonight imo. And I'm not sure what's up with highfill, but he might not be healthy or just lost a ton of ability with his injury, Cut out the bad baserunning and clean up the mistakes... this team can be good

This is what I don't understand. People are mad at Avent for putting highfill in the 8th? Coach didn't hit a batter walk 3 and give up several hits. His best bullpen arm did.

Highfill has looked great the majority of his work this year, just had a shaky outing pitching twice in one day last weekend, and didn't look comfortable in the rain conditions last night. He couldn't ever get his hand dry and kept having problems with his spikes. I'm not worried about him, hopefully he has another opportunity on Sunday

I honestly didn't think we had what I would consider bad base running this game, just some unfortunate breaks. We've definitely had some issues with that this year, but last night you had Serrano sliding over the bag in wet conditions, maybe should've slid a second earlier, but not egregious. The run down was because of an amazingly athletic play by the shortstop to jump up and cut off a throw that wasn't intended to be cut off, I don't fault the runner for that. Green getting doubled up on the bobbled play is just a fluke play, if he holds on you're doubled up, if he drops it and you wait you probably get thrown out at second. Just really tough where that was hit. We've had a lot of those types of plays go against us this year, baseball gods might've evened things up in the bottom of the 9th.

Agree it was smoked. He would have had a better shot at it playing back yes. Again there was no need. If the batter had bunted it would have been just a single. The point is there was no need to play even

Player alignment in the field is all data driven for the most the part, right? Since this kid was leading off the inning I don't believe it was a situational alignment.

Groover has been pretty good at third but his instincts are still a work in progress, IMO. His positional awareness is coming along.

But I get where you're coming from there. Good call out.

Maybe it wasn't in anticipation of a bunt? Maybe we were pitching him low and away and expecting a roll over grounder? That was my thought based on where I thought Cozart was setup and where the pitch missed, but I may be wrong. Either way, does Avent normally call out the defensive alignment? It's on him as a the head coach obviously, but I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say he mismanaged the game based on that one at bat.

When I say mismanaged I'm not pointing the finger at Avent at all. Now, does he make some boneheaded calls? Sure. A pitch low and away usually will get hit up the middle or to the right side. Defense was playing at normal depth except for Gino. Again, with no outs and no one on there's no sense in it. With a runner on, yes I could see it.

Oh no doubt he missed his location. It was the 1st pitch he saw. And to be honest another batter smoked another line drive past Gino closer down the line and that one got by him also.

Something was off with Highfill last night. You could tell as soon as he started warming up. Not sure what is going on. He is the Apex Ace who starred as both pitcher and batter in the World Series...!
