ECU baseball commit Parker Byrd is set to undergo a second amputation Friday following a boating accident last month.
Byrd originally had his right leg amputated below the knee.
Surgeons were hopeful the tissue below the knee would be viable, but his mother, Mitzi Byrd, posted on social media that it is not and he will have to have his knee amputated too.
In another social media post, Mitzi said Parker's doctor postponed the surgery from Thursday to Friday.
Once the surgery is complete, she says her son is expected to be discharged to an apartment in Greenville where he will continue treatment until the wound heals. He will then begin rehabilitation.
