In other games UNC/Louisville has been suspended because of a bomb threat. WOW

Big to take a win there. First two games were so flukey, with the rain, the ejection, then the snow, it was good to have a somewhat normal day. Silver pitched great. Bats woke up. Just keep building on it.

Only had one grounder hit to him that I recall, and he fielded it and threw the guy out. I think he may have caught a foul pop up also, but may be mistaken.

No. 20 NC State baseball (19-11, 7-7 ACC) scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back as it defeated No. 23 Virginia Tech (20-8, 7-6 ACC), 10-3, on Sunday in the series finale at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.

With the win, the Wolfpack managed to avoid the sweep by the Hokies.

The Pack tallied 14 hits in the game with five players turning in multi-hit performances, led by Dominic Pilolli's career-tying 4-for-5 day with two runs batted in.

Three different players hit a home run in the contest, highlighted by Jacob Cozart's first career homer and Tommy White's 13th of the season to tie the freshman program record. Sunday was the seventh time this season the Pack has hit three or more homers in a game.

In addition to the team's offensive efforts on Sunday, Noah Soles turned in his fifth multi-hit performance in six games as he has tallied 14 hits in that span. Also, LuJames Groover III extended his hit streak to 17 and reached base streak to 20.

On the mound, Canaan Silver improved to 4-0 on the year as he tied his career long in innings pitched with 6.0, allowing one earned run on two hits and not allowing a walk while tallying five strikeouts. Chris Villaman picked up his seventh save of the year, including his sixth in as many appearances, by tossing the final three innings of the contest.

Devonte Brown led off the game with a solo shot to left for his seventh home run of the season. He is the first NC State player to lead off a game with a home run since Logan Ratledge did so on May 11, 2015, at Wake Forest.

After Groover drew a walk and White laced an outfield single to put runners at the corners, Pilolli drove in Groover with a base hit through the left side to make it 2-0. Then, with the bases loaded after Josh Hood walked, a sacrifice fly to left field by Soles allowed White to cross home plate and add the third run.

NC State plated a pair of runs in the fourth, extending its lead to 5-0. Cozart scored on a double play with the bases loaded after he, Brown and Groover all drew walks, and then Brown come home from third on a wild pitch.

Virginia Tech got on the board in the fifth via Nick Biddison's single up the middle after a two-out walk and hit-by-pitch put runners at first and second.

The Pack responded in the sixth with a pair of runs to go up 7-1. Cozart hit a leadoff homer to center field for the first home run of his career, and then Pilolli tallied his second RBI of the day when he drove in Groover from second with a single to right field, his third hit of the game, after a walk and groundout put him in scoring position.

The Hokies cut into their deficit again in the seventh with a leadoff homer by Cade Hunter over the left field wall, making it 7-2.

In the eighth, White blasted his team-leading 13th home run to center field to give NC State an 8-2 lead. With the homer he ties the freshman program record, which was set by Patrick Bailey in 2018.

Tanner Schobel got a run back for the Hokies in the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot to left center, but NC State responded in the ninth with two more runs to cap off a strong day at the plate. J.T. Jarrett and Soles reached on an error and double, respectively, to start the threat, and a wild pitch followed by Cozart's RBI double allowed the runners to score.

NC State returns home Tuesday for a midweek contest with UNCW for the first of two meetings between the squads this year. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park, and the game will be broadcast on ACCNX. There will additionally be an audio stream on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App

Not a bad weekend really -- VT is probably a regional team unless they implode again down the stretch. No Sam and the elements of the first 2 games made things pretty difficult. Really nice showing on Sunday.

That park played like Wake to me. Everything in the air seemed to have a chance to blow out. Weird.

Let's rest Sam again and sweep BC (team ERA of almost 8.00!).

I've never seen so many left hand hitters get completely jammed and hit bloopers out to left field that all seemed to get carry over the wall. I know it was windy but dang. A couple of times you could see the VT hitter was upset with the swing but ended up as a HRs.

That's a perfect description. It was crazy.

Not putting too much into this past weekend because of this. Our season ultimately comes down to getting Sam back and: can we win 2 of 3 series vs LVille/Wake/UNC -- if so, we are probably hosting assuming take care of business elsewhere.

Our GT sweep is going to age very well.

I was telling my buddy that I swear one of those homers was a check swing. They hit some no doubters too, don't get me wrong, but they had at least three that I thought were going to be lazy pop ups that were out by a good margin.

.@NCStateBaseball surrendered 32 runs over the course of a 3-game series at Virginia Tech. Staff writer @rachelmichele15 breaks down how the Pack's pitching didn't measure up against the Hokies.
