well, your post didn't indicate you disliked the decision to bunt. You simply said the bunt was not great, which seemed to indicate you didn't think the execution was good.

I hate bunting as much as the next guy, but in that situation, I agree with the decision. Give yourself two chances to win the game. You also have weather playing into your favor with respect to potential wild pitchers/passed balls moving you over to third with less than two outs, or even errant throws on an infield grounder that could potentially win you the game.

The real issue is you need your next two batters to have an approach at the plate where they're focused on gap to gap contact baseball. Instead, you get two dudes up there pulling off the ball trying to hit the thing 500 feet.

You also have to remember it was raining so more chance of wild pitch.

No reason to bunt Brown-don't get that

No. 17 NC State baseball (9-5, 0-1 ACC) was unable to hold off No. 3 Notre Dame (10-1, 1-0 ACC) on Friday in its Atlantic Coast Conference opener at Doak Field at Dail Park, falling 8-4 (12 inn.) in the contest.

Despite the Wolfpack plating two runs each in the first and third, the Irish scored a combined eight unanswered runs in the seventh, eighth and 12th innings to take the first game of the series.

This was the second time this season the Pack has gone to extra innings.

The Pack plated two runs on three hits in the first to jump out to a 2-0 lead. J.T. Jarrett and Tommy White led off the side with a single and double, respectively, and then after a fielder's choice put LuJames Groover III on base and White on third, an RBI groundout by Josh Hood and RBI single by Devonte Brown in consecutive at bats allowed the runners to score.

Hood delivered again in the third inning with a two-run single through the left side after White and Groover got into scoring position on a single and two-base error, respectively, to double NC State's lead to 4-0.

The Irish were held to just two hits through the first six innings by starting pitcher Sam Highfill, but they managed to score three runs on four hits in the seventh to cut its deficit to one. Carter Putz led off the frame with a home run to left center, and then a wild pitch with runners at the corners followed by Zack Prajzner's RBI single to left field pushed the other two runs across.

In the eighth Notre Dame knotted the score at 4-4 when Jack Brannigan's single to center field drove in Jared Miller after he led off with a double to left field.

After nine consecutive batters retired by Chris Villaman (0-1) in the ninth through 11th innings, Notre Dame plated four runs on as many hits and two errors in the 12th to break the tie. Prajzner led off with a home run down the left field line, and then following a wild pitch and error scoring runners from third, Danny Neri's RBI double to left field allowed the fourth run to score.

White (2-for-6), Groover (2-for-5) and Will Marcy (2-for-4) each turned in multi-hit performances, while Hood was responsible for three of the team's four runs batted in.

NC State and Notre Dame will meet for the second game of the series Saturday, with first pitch slated for 2 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park. The contest will be broadcast on ACCNX and there will be an audio stream on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App.

Once Avent made the decision to bunt with Brown, he should have bunted the next two.

I'm a couple miles from campus and have been outside since about 10 this morning. Yeah it's cold and very windy bit no reason baseball can't be played

Bizarre and disappointing.

Found out as I was walking out the door to head over.

Why was it called so late, with field conditions improving by the minute, and why in the world aren't they playing two tomorrow?

In the past there has been mention of some sort of rules regarding Sunday game times and the visiting teams travel arrangements. I think that's why there's no double header tomorrow. As to why the game was cancelled today, I saw it said on Twitter that ND didn't want to play, but I'm not sure why that would be.

With Willadsen starting, I imagine Harrison is available for relief since it his normal day to throw.

And people are mad we aren't playing a double header? We need to limit our L's at the moment
