NC State returns to action this weekend when it hosts Northeastern in a three-game series at Doak Field at Dail Park. The teams will play Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., with all three games being broadcast on the ACCNX with an audio stream on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App.

No. 4 NC State baseball (8-1) returns home this weekend for a three-games series with Northeastern (3-5) at Doak Field at Dail Park. The teams will play Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

All three games will be broadcast on the ACCNX. Friday's audio stream will only be available on the Varsity Network App, and Saturday will air on both WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App. Sunday's radio coverage will be dependent on the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament, but will at least be on the Varsity Network App.

SERIES HISTORY
NC State and Northeastern have met five times in program history, and the Wolfpack has won all five contests. The teams last met on June 2, 2018, in the NCAA Raleigh Regional and NC State earned a 9-3 win.

This weekend will be just the second time the teams have met for a three-game series, with the last time coming on March 12-14, 2004.

Excited to watch the Pack this weekend. Hope they put Campbell behind them and bring back out the whooping sticks.

Highfill isn't good enough when the slider isn't on. Above average fastball and change up isn't going to cut it, he needs to get it figured out soon. This NE pitcher is what highfill could be, IMO

i'm all about trying some new things early in the season but having a defensive catcher who hit .220 in the CAA as your DH is sort of odd.

The top end of our team is really good but I'm concerned about the depth. If the top guys aren't hitting then we really struggle to produce runs.

I think Hood may be our best player. White started hot but it look Hood maybe the most consistent

Hood consistently hits the ball hard. Also, if these northeastern pitchers are interested in transferring I'd be happy to have them.

No. 4 NC State baseball (8-2) dropped its series opener with Northeastern (4-5) on Friday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park, 6-1.

The Huskies plated four runs in the first two innings and never looked back, while the Wolfpack was held to four hits, led by Josh Hood's 3-for-4 outing.

Northeastern got off to a hot start right away, scoring three runs on two hits and an error in the first. Mike Sirota drove in two runs with a double to right center after a walk and hit-by-pitch started the game. Corey DiLoreto's single to left field plated Sirota after he advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt.

A bases-loaded sac fly to right field in the second inning extended Northeastern's lead to 4-0.

Josh Hood broke up the no-hitter by Cam Schlittler in the fifth with a one-out double to right center, and then tallied his second hit in the seventh with a hard-hit ball to the third baseman.

NC State looked to close the four-run deficit in the eighth when Payton Green led off with a single and Devonte Brown drew a two-out walk for Tommy White, but Husky shortstop Max Viera managed to get his glove on a ball deep in the gap and make the throw across the diamond in time.

Schlittler tossed an impressive eight shutout innings, surrendering three hits while fanning five batters.

The Huskies pushed insurance runs across in the ninth, making it 6-0. With runners in scoring position on one out, a wild pitch followed by pinch hitter Mark Darakjy's RBI single to Green at shortstop drove in the second run of the frame.

Hood belted his second home run of the year over the right field wall to help the Pack avoid the shutout in the ninth.

Garrett Payne tallied a career high six strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work, doubling his previous mark.

NC State and Northeastern will meet for game two of the series Saturday at 2 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park. The game will be broadcast on ACCNX and there will be an audio stream on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App.

Tough to say it, but after a game and a few innings, northeastern is just a better team right now. They're barreling the ball more, making more fundamental plays on D, and pitching better. We are getting outplayed in all 3 phases almost halfway through the series and it's not even that close

Oh 100%. And as good as their pitching is, we are going to face atleast the equivalent week in and week out in the ACC. Same with leaving pitches up and the really average fielding. Let's hope they get it together
