My bad guys. This is the first game I've watched this season. I'm a world renowned jinx. I'm gonna watch hockey instead to assure the comeback.

You're fired! Lol.

Nah, it's baseball. **** happens. We will bounce back. Even strike 3 to end the game was high. Oh well

Not a sharp effort. Ultimately a game that probably won't mean anything, flush it and move on.

Inconsistent strike zone all night but really outplayed and outcoached.

When shortstop has to field a chopper on other side of the bag for infield single and dude from 2nd scores....thats bad defense.

Wheres Groover on that play?

Might be good for the guys to face some adversity and regroup. But yes. This L is on me.

Not that this justifies it but it's not ACCNX.

Campbell pitched there best pitchers(with the exception of there #1). We do not pitch our best pitchers when we play them unless we were to meet in the ncaa tournament. Given that we still did not hit well tonight and I think we missed JT tonight he would have made a big difference with his leadership and hitting.

I think JT fields that infield single and guns dude at home. Really young up the middle when he's out.

The SS takes that one pretty much always. The 2B would be throwing across his body but either way that's a tough tough play for either position to make on a lil chopper like that one.

That also has to be the slowest turf field I've seen.

ETA- Just talked to a friend who has played on that field and he confirmed it is the tallest turf he ever played on.

No. 4 NC State baseball (8-1) suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday night to Campbell (3-6), 7-4, at Jim Perry Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C.

Despite scoring a combined three runs in the first and second innings, the Camels managed to answer with runs in the second and fifth innings and hold their lead until the final out. It was the first time this season the Wolfpack has been held to single digit hits and the second time it has been held to single digit runs.

Devonte Brown scored the first run of the game on Josh Hood's RBI groundout after back-to-back Campbell errors put him at third to start the game.

In the second the Pack extended its lead to 3-0 thanks to a hit-by-pitch and wild pitch with the bases loaded, but Campbell responded with a pair of runs to cut the deficit to one with Drake Pierson's RBI double and Lawson Harrill's RBI single after Zach Williams drew a one-out walk to start the side.

The Camels took their first lead of the night in the fifth to make it 5-3. After a walk and single put Pierson at second a hit and error on a sacrifice attempt brought him home, and then Waldy Arias drove in two more runs with a double down the left field line.

A bases-loaded sac fly in the sixth extended Campbell's lead to three, but Brown answered in the seventh with a solo shot to left field, his third home run of the year, to make it 6-4.

NC State was able to put the go ahead run at the plate in the eighth after Payton Green drew a two-out walk and pinch hitter Matt Oldham singled to right field, but a fly out ended the threat. The Camels then added an insurance run in the bottom frame on Ty Babin's RBI single with runners at first and second.

Once again, the Pack looked to rally back in its final three outs, loading the bases up on one out with a leadoff single by Tommy White and a pair of walks from LuJames Groover III and Hood, but back-to-back strikeouts left the runners stranded to end the game.

Eddie Eisert led the offense with a 2-for-4 outing, his second multi-hit performance of the year, while Brown led the team with two runs batted in. White extended his hit streak to nine and continues to lead the NCAA in hits with 21.

On the mound, eight different pitchers made an appearance and combined for nine strikeouts.

NC State returns to action this weekend when it hosts Northeastern in a three-game series at Doak Field at Dail Park. The teams will play Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., with all three games being broadcast on the ACCNX with an audio stream on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App.

Campbell did not pitch their best pitchers, at least their best starting pitchers. It's one game in early March. I'd rather take the L now than in June. Learn from it and move on. Today is a new day.

Their first 4 dudes on the bump last night are guys that all throw on the weekend and lead them in appearances so far.

They were trying to get a big win, and got it. Good for them.

not to get too worked up over this game, but why did Adams get the hook after only 40 pitches? he's the 4th best starter by a wide margin.

we predetermined a staff day i guess?

This team has to show me more than they have for me to get really excited about the potential for this season. There are probably better high school teams around than Evansville and Quinnipiac, so double digit run scoring in those games is fun to watch, but pretty meaningless. I saw the 2nd game with Quinnipiac and listened some last night, and it looks like we have some suspect fielding at this point, and four runs vs. Campbell, even if it is the best of their staff, isn't going to cut it in ACC play.

I think they deserve to be ranked in the 15 to 20 range based on play so far. Not top 10, and certainly nowhere near a national top 5 team. I guess we'll all know weekend after next with ND coming to town.

So you've only actually seen us play one game, and listened to part of another? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. No offense, but there isn't a high school team in the country that could beat any team we've played, that's silly. This team isn't perfect, and there will be growing pains, but at this point in the season, you are what your record says you are with regards to rankings, everyone is playing lesser teams at this point.

We weren't going to bat .400 as a team and score 14 runs a game for the year, there will be times when we only score four runs. If we were throwing a weekend starter and closer, they wouldn't have scored 7 runs either. Even last year's team had their struggles, all that matters is everything coming together at the end of the year when it matters. Ultimately who cares if we are ranked where we should be, enjoy the publicity for the team.

I am also close to the Camels program and trust me. They wanted that game much more than we did. It will mean more to them when it comes to getting into a regional that it did us. Sure it would have been great to win the game and remain undefeated but it's one game. Northeastern will not be an easy series either. Just be prepared.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

As much as I would like to win every game, that aspiration is not realistic in baseball. To make it to Omaha and win the last game, we will likely need pitchers 4, 5 and 6 to step up and need an extra arm out of the bullpen. Last year Villaman stepped up. Gaining valuable experience for those guys and finding out which pitcher could step up is more important at this stage than trying to stay undefeated. The offense has to learn to manufacture runs off NCAA caliber pitching and even when they don't hit their best, they score enough to win. Even though we lost, it's not awful. Learning to win is the big picture here. Baseball is a marathon, not a sprint. Th younger guys have to learn to be a champion. It was our first road game and against someone who really wanted to beat us. Learning to be a champion is as important as merely winning. Patience by Avent and building a champion is the most important thing now. Build a team that wins the last game, that's the goal.
