Thought I heard Adam Gold on the broadcast say it was "Big Poppa". Also, Dom Pilloli's is the theme music from The Godfather.

Man just catching up on the threads, what a fun game to watch! The Groover walk off was nasty. Lots of fire power and great team play. Young team and hope they stay red hot but will have some set backs along the way. But man, most exciting team and player in college baseball right now!

Side question, haven't caught it yet, but what is Tommy La Flama Blanca White's walk up song?

"There are 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses...Hit it!"

I don't think he can, but damn he is hitting like it's slow pitch softball.

3-4 seasons ago, we had a guy who started hot like this (not THIS hot) and had a bunch of homers in the pre-conf games and IIRC, even early conf games. Then it was like he got into this HR swing thing, and began striking out a ton. By end of season, as the offense fizzled, he was almost a non-factor in the games. I think it was the year we lost in the ECU regional? And my fading memory can't recall who it was now....

But I hope the coaches and older guys on the team can keep White focused on just making good contact....the fact he is going off field so much seems like it is a very positive sign that he is not just overswinging and yanking everything out, which can then be turned against him.

Don't let the gaudy scores against inferior competition fool you. This is a very young team with some fielding/defense issues that need to be fixed. Offense ok due to White, although Devonte Brown has some terrible at bats ( 2 Ks on 7 pitches). I was there for game one, and we looked terrible against their starter ( who had given up 5 earned runs in previous start) before rallying late due to their bullpen and even worse fielding. We weren't credited with any errors, but there were some pretty basic freshman mistakes that will cost us games in league play if not fixed. Center in particular is struggling to keep ball in front of him. We've been spoiled at that position last few years...

No. 7 NC State baseball (8-0) swept its doubleheader on Saturday at Doak Field at Dail Park to complete its series sweep over Quinnipiac (1-5) and remain undefeated on the season.

Despite finding itself behind early on in game one, the Wolfpack managed to overcome a six-run deficit and walk it off in the 10th inning. In game two the Pack jumped out to an eight-run lead and never looked back, earning a 16-4 (7 inn.) victory.

The sweep marked the 19th consecutive nonconference win for the Pack, dating back to the 2012 season.

Game One Recap
The Bobcats got on the board in the first inning with four runs on as many hits, marking the first time this season the Pack has allowed its opponent to score first. With the bases loaded Sam LaChance drove in the first run with a groundout to Payton Green at shortstop, and then Danny Melnick's 2-RBI double to left field made it 3-0.

Melnick then scored from third on a wild pitch to extend the lead to four.

In the fourth Quinnipiac extended its lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs on three hits. Anthony Donofrio's two-out RBI double to left field following a leadoff single and walk plated the first run, and then a squeeze play by Kyle Maves with runners in scoring position pushed the other run across.

Josh Hood put the Pack on the board in the bottom frame with his first home run of the year to left field, and then in the fifth Tommy White belted his eighth home run of the season to right center after Noah Soles led off the side with a single to left field to make it 6-3.

LaChance gave the Bobcats a four-run lead with his leadoff homer to left center in the seventh, and then a bases-loaded walk followed by Julian Uejima's RBI single to left field with the bases still loaded made it 9-3.

NC State answered in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 9-5 when Devonte Brown and Dominic Pilolli scored on a Bobcat error after both drawing walks.

In the eighth Michael Kohn drove in LaChance from first with a double to right field to make it a five-run game. However, the Wolfpack quickly bounced back in the bottom half tying things up with five runs of its own. The rally started with LuJames Groover III's 2-RBI double down the left field line after Will Marcy and Chase Nixon started the side with a walk followed and single, respectively.

After Brown reached on an error, White drove in a pair of runs with his double down the left field line. After advancing to third on a wild pitch White scored on a Bobcat error to tie things up at 10-10.

Nine consecutive outs were recorded in the ninth inning and top half of the tenth frame, with Green breaking the ice in extra innings for the Wolfpack with a leadoff single to left field. Groover then drove a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall to clinch the series for the Wolfpack with a 12-10 win in walk off fashion.

Chris Villaman (1-0) picked up his first win of the season by pitching a perfect ninth and tenth inning with four strikeouts, while White (3-for-5, 4 RBI) Nixon (3-for-4) and Groover (2-for-3, 4 RBI) led the offense.

Game Two Recap
NC State carried its momentum from the walk off win into the nightcap. The Pack plated one run in the first inning on a wild pitch, then proceeded to score seven runs in the second inning to go ahead 8-0, highlighted by an RBI double from Brown.

The Wolfpack added four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, with White hitting his ninth home run of the season in the fourth on a three-run shot. White continued his effort in the batter's box in the fifth with an RBI single, followed by run-scoring singles from Hood and Pilolli.

Quinnipiac got on the board in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run by Sean Swenson, followed by a two-RBI single by Sebastian Mueller to trim the NC State lead to 16-3.

The Bobcats added to their scoring effort on a solo home run in the top of the seventh, with Donofrio scoring Quinnipiac's fourth run, the final of the contest as the game was deemed final after the top half of the seventh inning with the Wolfpack securing a 16-4 victory.

David Harrison (2-0) earned the win for NC State, striking out six and allowing three runs through 5.2 innings pitched. Brown, White, Groover, Hood and Marcy tallied two hits apiece in the team's combined 11 hits, while White led the squad with four more RBIs.

89 grad. Make me a list please of players, pro or college that have not had bad at bats, Mays, Mantle, Bonds or whoever. They have all had bad at bats. I do not get the point about Brown.

But yes we are young. We will make mistakes but veteran teams make mistakes also. I think for a young team, we are quite good and will figure it out. I do believe our coaches are doing a great thing, playing with the lineup to sort through things while at the same time being 8-0. We have a chance to be special.

Exactly. Just because Quinnipiac's pitcher pitched poorly last week, doesn't mean he will pitch poorly this week. Every day is different for every player. I still think Tommy White is going to have some struggles at some point because it happens to everybody. If he continues to prove me wrong on that I will come on this board and take my medicine. It's baseball.

We saw a top 3 defense last year. Those dudes were legit special in the field.

I'm not sure this is going to be a top 25 defense this season but the good news is it's way too early to tell and hopefully I'm way wrong.

We are young and that's what scares some of us a lil bit.

Payton Green has had some issue with the routine plays. He's constantly making White work over at first. Conversely, White has been pretty good at first so far. He's picked some tough balls out of the dirt that could eat up some seasoned dudes.

A team like this just needs to win the easy ones like they're supposed and the hope is by the team the meat of the conference schedule hits, this squad will keep winning some ball games. I just don't want to see us kick the ball around, walk a bunch of dudes and lose games that could've easily have been won.

Like I said, still way too early to have our hair on fire but not too early to worry a bit.
