also, whitaker getting the start today. have to assume he's on a strict pitch count. seems like it would be a good time to have a bullpen day and let 5-6 guys get 1-2 innings
Have to think there's something around a 100% chance we see Villaman today
a few freshmen, cooper king, villaman, tillery are guys who haven't thrown at all this year. of course i am not sure if any of them are banged up. (trey cooper too)

sipple, miralia, baker nelson, lawson, and a couple freshman have all thrown 1 or fewer innings.

I'd like to see Lawson get some mound time. We've only gotten to see him for an inning and I thought he looked decent against Duke in the fall

just another meh play by groover in left. ball bounced mid warning track and he had given up on it. again, not an easy play, but i think i am spoiled by the plays last years team would make.

Even outside of the D scenarios, Pilolli can't get healthy quick enough. Would like to steal 2nd in that situation to keep the DP out of order

They mentioned he played 6 spots at Charlotte last year as a FR, and I get being an athlete and utility, but we probably need to dial that back a bit to let him develop his skills at a spot. Hard to develop and make those above average plays easy without constantly getting the same reps.

(At work, didn't see this particular play - but definitely noticeable during the first four)

Didn't have a problem with the Groover play in left. Didn't get a great jump and no reason to dive in the first. As Kinneman said, it takes time to learn the park in game situations. He looks like he has the athletic ability, just needs to get comfortable somewhere, so hopefully we find that spot for him, even if it's DH.

You're gonna have to turn it back off and then back on again. We just went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning

No I can't take credit for that. I brought them good luck in the second and that is my story and I am sticking to it.

Yeah, two homers and a double off the top of the wall in 11 pitches is... not good.

Hard to find much to complain about with those 2 midweek wins - was kind of hoping we'd see Truitt get an AB though, I know he's there, wonder if he's healthy or what... Gotta assume Villaman will get some work at some point against Quinnipiac. For those who don't recall they were actually in our 2019 regional at ECU and were pretty competitive in it. Doesn't look like they followed it up well in 2020 or 2021, wonder if they're due for an upswing season after downcycling for a few.

Truitt isn't healthy. he has a hard cast on his hand

Just watched the game back. The team as a whole are really swinging the bats well. Let's keep the confidence high.

No. 7 NC State baseball (5-0) extended its win streak to five thanks to its 19-3 victory over Longwood (3-2) on Wednesday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The offense combined for 18 hits en route to its third double-digit scoring game. This is the fifth consecutive game where the Wolfpack has not allowed an opponent to score in the first five innings, and it is outscoring its opponents, 74-16.

The Pack struck early in the first on a Tommy White RBI single to center field after Devonte Brown led off the frame with a double to left field. In the second, the Pack reloaded for six runs on four hits, highlighted by back-to-back-to-back hits of LuJames Groover III's 2-RBI single, Dominic Pilolli's 2-RBI triple and Josh Hood's RBI double all to the right side of the diamond.

After three quiet innings the offense got back on the board in the sixth, posting four runs on a single by Groover, his third of the day, a pair of wild pitches and a sac fly to take an 11-0 lead.

In the seventh the Pack exploded for six more runs, extending its lead to 17-0. Will Marcy led off the side with his first career home run to center field, and then after Payton Green doubled off of the center field wall Brown stepped up and launched a two-run homer to left field. Two at-bats later, Eddie Eisert tallied his first career triple, scoring Groover from second, and then he scored on an error.

In his second at-bat of the inning Marcy drove in Hood from second with a single up the middle to cap off the six-run frame.

The Pack's offense continued to shine in the eighth, as it plated its final two runs of the day on Eisert's single to right center and Matt Oldam's double up the right field line with runners in scoring position.

In the top of the ninth, the Lancers managed to avoid the shutout as they pushed two runs across on a 2-RBI double by Gran Melnyk and a bases-loaded walk.

Six different players tallied multiple hits in the contest, led by Brown (3-for-4) and Groover (3-for-6) who both tallied three RBIs and scored a combined seven runs. Hood additionally drove in three runs in his 2-for-5 outing.

In his first career start and second career appearance for the Pack, Logan Whitaker (1-0) threw five shutout innings, surrendering just two hits while fanning five batters. Garrett Payne and Brandon Hudson combined for three shutout innings of relief, while Trey Cooper and Cooper King made their first appearances of the year out of the bullpen.
