Looks like the Royals went up to the 5% overage of their pool.

Man that is one solid update. Looking forward to seeing this team!
I... just don't get baseball signings and eligibiity. It seems like (?) we've had players who actually signed then returned to play for us, though getting a paycheck? Or is it just that players drafted and unsigned were 'retained' by the team that drafted the player, even though they returned to play.

Also confused: who actually left and who stayed overall. Can we get a toddl -type roster chart showing turnover per position, showing class, and incoming signees?
No, no one has signed after being drafted and returned to play baseball again. They lose their eligibility once they sign. You might be thinking of kids that also play football that sign to play professional baseball after being drafted. If they don't make it as professional baseball players, some go back to college to play football. That's happens.

The player's "rights" used to be owned by the team that drafted them for a year until right before the next draft or the player went to (or back to) school. There was a lot more to it that I don't remember or don't know but the rules changed.

You should take some time and read back through a couple of the threads about the draft and one titled "next season". Lots of good info in there but here's the short(ish) and sweet version...
Drafted/Previous starting lineup
1B- Austin Murr- drafted by the Detroit Tigers and signed. He gone.
2B- JT Jarrett- will return next season
SS- Jose Torres - drafted by the Cincinnati Reds and signed. He gone.
3B- Vojtech Mensik- signed with the LA Angels as a free agent. He gone.
C- Luca Tresh - drafted by the KC Royals and just signed. He gone.
DH- Terrell Tatum- drafted by the Chicago White Sox and signed. He gone.
LF- Jonny Butler - drafted by the Oakland A's and signed. He gone.
CF- Tyler McDonough - drafted by the Boston Red Sox and signed. He gone.
RF- Devonte Brown - not drafted and will be back next season. Huge to get him back.
P - Evan Justice - drafted by the Colorado Rockies and signed. He gone
P- Reid Johnston- drafted by the Cleveland Guardians and signed. He gone.
P- Dalton Feeney- honored with the seniors. Don't think he'll be back but no clue.
P- Cam Cotter - He's had some serious arm injuries. Probably shouldn't play baseball anymore, doubt he's back.
P- Canaan Silver - no idea if he's back or not. 2021 was his 4th year in college.

Kids in the portal (Transfers out)
Logan Bender - no idea where he ends up
Danny Carnazzo - no idea where he ends up. Back out west, maybe?
Bryce Behmer - transferred to a JUCO

https://gopack.com/sports/baseball/roster

I'm not going to list out everyone that's returning b/c we could (and probably will) have some kids leave before the 2022 roster is put out.

Transfers in
OF Trey Truitt - From ECU and was on the roster this year but basically redshirted.
OF Dom Pilolli - From UNCC.
OF/INF Gino Groover - From UNCC
OF/INF Sam Hall - Clemson
C Matt Oldham - Elon
SS Josh Hood - Penn

JUCOs
1B/OF Brady Lavoie - Palomar College
P Jacob Widener - Palomar College
P Logan Adams - College of Central Florida
C Jacob Godman - College Southern Nevada
P Justin Lawson - Bossier Parish CC
C Tucker Mitchell - State College of Florida (drafted by the Rangers but hasn't signed yet)

Recruits
https://www.perfectgame.org/College/CollegeCommitments.aspx?college=1685

The link is a listing of the incoming 2021 recruits. Khalil Watson will not be coming to State. He's probably (99.99999999% sure) going to sign with the Miami Marlins, who drafted him in the first round (16th pick).

That should allow you to piece it together, for the most part.

Yep. That's it. But it doesn't make sense for eligibility to me.

A kid signs a contract to play minor league professional ball. Can't hit a curve ball. Then, after having played a year of baseball as a [semi-]pro, comes back to be an amateur college football player again at Wisconsin.

How can a pro RETURN to school and regain amateur status?
I can't see any other way that NCAA athletes could be paid to play a sport as a pro, then regain their amateur status... (?)

Got paid to play a DIFFERENT sport, that's the key factor. So basically, as long as you're not a pro at one sport, you can still play that one in college.

But... the NCAA kept a kid from playing several years back because he used a waterhose connected to the Football building to regularly wash off his jalopy... calling the free car wash an "improper benefit."

If washing your car off is a no-no, how could getting payed $50,000 from a semi-pro organization in another sport be allowed? (I realize this is all moot now, with the NIL era beginning...).

I don't make the rules, just explaining what they are. Never said any of them make any sense. There was a guy that lost football eligibility because he took endorsement money for skiing several years ago. Bloom? Technically he got paid for a different sport, but because it wasn't specifically for the sport, but rather endorsement money, the NCAA ruled he wasn't eligible. Pretty sure he fought it, but don't remember the outcome.

You are trying to understand the NCAA. That's a losing proposition. They aren't rational and their decisions and rules don't make sense to normal, rational individuals

A potentially significant hiccup with Green/Hood... Peter Gammons reported Red Sox are unlikely to sign second rounder Jud Fabian, which means the Sox will have additional money they did not expect to have (somewhere around $1.2 mill). They do still need to sign their fifth rounder who will be overslot. They won't be able to come close to Green's number, but something to watch with Hood. Not sure what his number is but theoretically Sox could approach 500k or so, maybe more

Ethan, why would they have additional money? I thought if a team doesn't sign someone from one of the first 10 rounds, that money is just deducted from their pool. Is that not right?

If that's true, it hurts their chances of signing Green/Hood because if they'd signed the 2nd round pick at under slot value, they'd have extra money to spread around. Plus, if you deduct the money from their pool, then the 5% they're allowed to go over their pool shrinks also. (5% of 1.2 million is about $60K - not huge, but something)

I think he means Boston was going to have to pay 3 mil to sign Fabian and now by not signing him that extra 1.2 mil (slot is 1.8 mil, I think) is open for other picks that was potentially budgeted for Fabian.

I don't want to speak for Ethan but that's my take on his post, I could be totally wrong.

Correct. I believe they'll have somewhere around an extra 700k to play with. 5th rounder will get some and so will Niko Kavadas. After that, they'll offer whatever's left to their later draft picks, including Hood, and see who takes what
