NC State baseball's season ends in College World Series

NC State baseball’s season is over. After the Wolfpack played yesterday’s 3-1 loss to Vanderbilt yesterday with just 13 players due to health and safety protocols and COVID issues within the program, the NCAA announced that Saturday’s winner-take-all game would be ruled no-contest due to COVID protocols, and Vanderbilt would advance to the College World Series. 

The following is the full release and statement from the NCAA’s Division I Baseball Committee:

“The NCAA Division I Baseball Committee has declared the Vanderbilt-NC State Men’s College World Series game scheduled for Saturday, June 26 at 1 p.m. Central time a no-contest because of COVID-19 protocols. This decision was made based on the recommendation of the Championship Medical Team and the Douglas County Health Department. As a result, Vanderbilt will advance to the CWS Finals. The NCAA and the committee regret that NC State’s student-athletes and coaching staff will not be able to continue in the championship in which they earned the right to participate.  Because of privacy issues, we cannot provide further details.”

NC State finishes the 2021 College World Series with a 2-1 record, one win away from the final series, after beating Stanford and Vanderbilt before falling to the Commodores with a depleted roster yesterday.

CWS should have decided before this started.. bubble or not. They chose or not for the money so they should have accepted it and left the kids alone. Adults made this decision to open it up but the kids get the punishment ..cool. **** the NCAA.

Welcome to my world. I saw it and posted it right at 2 am and I got about an hours sleep last night and I am just livid inside. It's a good thing I don't live in Indianapolis right now.

ESPN reporting that JT Jarrett didn't get tested positive until Friday morning, not earlier in the week. That certainly changes the timeline.

So ridiculous. It is a small consolation but it seems the whole baseball community is in agreement and supports us.

I just posted this on one of the other threads. I just cancelled my hotel reservation at Harrahs in Council Bluffs. The lady I talked to at the front desk, Lisa just told me "You guys got ripped off." There had better be backlash with this from our administration, but I doubt that will happen.

We should demand that all participants, players, coaches bat boys etc, from every team be tested. How do they know we didn't acquire it from Stanford or Vandy etc. Is Vandy being tested since we " exposed" them?

As well as fans and parents from every team. The game is outdoors and you are letting thousands of people into the stadium with no masks, which don't work anyway. The hypocrisy of the NCAA keeps getting worse and worse and it's always been pretty bad.

If we had managed to win the game yesterday, they still would have made us leave. That's what this is saying, and that is really ****ing stupid. Once they let us play, that should've been the end of it. Those guys laid it all out there, and the NCAA does this. I'm really just lost on what to think right now. Our team deserves our united support. Now is not the time to criticize or lay blame. I'm heartbroken.

As a fan I am devastated. As a coach or one of those young men on NC States team I can not imagine the disappointment they feel. My broken heart goes out to them.

its ridiculous. You have thousands in the stands sharing spit and these 18-22 year olds can't play and they aren't even close to anyone else on the field more than a second or two. And it's outdoors where transmission has been proven to be almost nonexistent.

this is anti-science

a lot of you guys know that i have (and still am) working on the Moderna vaccine studies

it is completely expected and common place that vaccinated people test CVD positive.

the vaccine does not eradicate a virus, it boosts an immune system to target a specific virus preventing further infection.

for this reason on the clinical trials, vaccinated subjects are not blindly tested for CVD. A subject must first express symptoms of CVD before they are brought back into the clinic and tested.

People are mad at the NCAA. I get that. We gotta have someone or something to blame. But I'm guessing if everyone had been vaccinated, all players and coaches, this never happens. Self inflicted pain if you ask me. Get the damn vaccine people and we can stop the spread of this virus!
