Wow. Can't ask a simple question without getting smart ass responses. It was a legit question.

Probably pointless to try and have a legit discussion. Fwiw, I really like our most recent 2026 commit.

To enlighten you:

I would argue this is the best staff we've had (On paper) going into a year in a really long time. Two of your three weekend starters just played for the USA collegiate team and the third was also chosen but cut for the final team. If you're not familiar, the majority of guys on that team are typically 1st or 2nd round guys for the draft and are considered elite prospects. You also have Andrews who is returning instead of going into the draft.

In the portal era we have rarely used it on pitching. Chrysler has recruited or developed the majority of the guys he has brought in and I'm sure there will be a few pop next year that we haven't even thought about, just look at Smith and Dudan during last years run.

You return a core of Head, McHugh, Fraasman and Nixon who are proven contributors, plus Novy who looks the part. You upgraded at third and also landed a former top 100 prospect at SS.

Over the last 5-6 years Hart and BRob have taken 20+ guys from lower levels and turned them into studs. They have a proven track record of finding guys and making them a lot better. Last year was somewhat of an outlier but no reason not to trust them.

We also typically have a freshman bat or two that plays from day one and is really good. We didn't bring in as many bats this year but I would think if Hart wants them than they are legit.

We are also still recruiting the portal and I am sure we will land a couple more guys that will contribute next year.

Even with all the "Misses" in the portal last year we seem to forget that this team was one win away from winning the ACC regular season. The world isn't on fire and I think this could be a really good team if a couple of other pieces hit, the staff alone should keep you in majority of games.

Good write up.

My overall thoughts so far is we have upgraded 5 spots in the lineup this year. The returners (Nixon, Head, McHugh, Fraasman) and Peifer at 3rd should all be upgrades. Obviously, this is assuming the returners take a likely leap.

After that, catcher and short are likely offensive downgrades. Catcher will depend on if they can be an average bat with good defense, I think we would take that. For SS, assuming Ryan is the guy, I really love his athleticism and upside. Him and West were pretty close as prospects. If he can hit .270 or so and get on base, he could be a very solid bottom of the order player with how he can run. His upside is massive.

For the rest? It is TBD. Mitchell and Hogue had very similar JUCO numbers, so hopefully Mitchell can have the instant success Hogue had so maybe (hopefully?) a push there. Novy at 1st, not sure who to compare him to, but if you want to compare him to a DH last year, I would put his upside as much higher than our 3-4 man DH rotation we had last year.

There is a real chance 6 spots in the lineup are upgraded compared to last year, and hopefully catcher is upgraded defensively. I still think we can add another dude or two that will contribute. But with the returners, I think the staff has done a nice job filling in some holes.

Very good write up indeed. I do think most forget how close we were to finishing 1st in the league. One effing game. The pitching core is back. I think we'll find enough from the bats to compete again next year to win the ACC and try to get back to Omaha.

I think there are still questions with the pitching. If you watched as much of the CWS as I did you came to realize that our pitching was fine but it wasn't elite by any means. I don't think we know much other than Marohn will give us quality starts on most weekends. We don't know how Dudan will transition and Namce struggled a bit down the stretch. The backend of our bullpen remains a mystery as well.
So will the staff be good enough to cover for what appears to be a mid lineup - again we will see.

Same posts ad nauseum. Make a substantial contribution and you can singlehandedly clear up any pitching concerns you may have. With the shoestring budget we have we're fortunate to be in the ACC/NCAA mix most seasons. Maybe new coaches would do better. Maybe not.

Bookmark this - 6 P's off this staff will be drafted in 2026 if all get / stay healthy. Does this mean they are elite - no, but they will have a very, very good staff again this year (IMO).

Why do we have a shoestring budget. Maybe that is a worthwhile discussion to have. Does Carolina have a shoestring budget? Does Wake have a shoestring budget? Does ECU or Coastal have a shoestring budget? In the grand scheme of things baseball isn't a super expensive sport to support.

We just raised $20M without a whole lot of fanfare for stadium upgrades. Maybe we need to think bigger - I don't know.

Coastal has more than one sport and do pretty well in them. The baseball and softball teams are supported very well and have nice facilities but so does the football team which also has very good support.

That 20 mil that we donated to for Doak upgrades gets us to the point of only being 50% behind our competitors instead of being 80% behind our competitors, with regards to stadiums and facilities. It's a nice upgrade but still lacking compared to many ACC schools. You really have no idea what is happening. Not sure where you think this magical baseball money is coming from, with any coach we may have. This ain't basketball. I've beaten this like the proverbial dead horse, so I won't ruin this thread any longer responding to your inanity.
