Ben's a great guy. Loves NC State as much as anyone out there. Just lets his words fly occasionally.

Why did he not just go there in the first place if it was his dream school? No way they didn't offer him.

Ryan and TY in the lineup hello Speed
5 stolen bases last year for Head.

Hes not a speedster. Has a pretty good eye though thus lead off
Don't think he was thrown out as a freshman.

I'd run him at least until someone throws him out before feeling like he can't steal bases.

Maybe thats why I assumed he's not a speedster. He was on base alot for just 5 attempts. Is that him or coaching not running him?

We traditionally don't run

Definitely think we should've run more, particularly with the composition of the team last season. I do always find it interesting the cyclical nature of how folks feel about small ball. Seems like every other year we're complaining about playing it too much or not enough.

I feel like most of the small ball issues are tied to the bunting early in games.

I don't recall many being mad State tried to steal too many bases before but I could be wrong.

Is it safe to say we prefer aggressive? Not really small ball, but i think, in general as a fan base, we want you to be aggressive in any sport you're in. If you're gonna lose, lose going balls to the wall. I think that's some folks issue with Doeren.

Yep, I think most fans would prefer aggressive and entertaining

Eh, I just don't think that bunting automatically goes into the not aggressive box and stolen base attempts automatically goes into the aggressive box. It depends on the situation, personnel, strengths of the other team, etc. Both bring in the possibility of making an out to attempt to advance the runner. I'm on record that I probably would never bunt as a coach, but folks act like bunting is giving up. Sometimes it's the right play, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes trying to steal is the right play, just depends.

I thought Clemson did some solid and aggressive bunting against NC State in Durham.

Didn't mean to imply that bunting wasn't aggressive. Obviously depends on the situation and, imo, the player you are having bunt. Avent's situational bunting decisions have been questionable at best the past couple years, though. And I don't think he's been particularly aggressive with the stealing either based on the results. We were 30/40 on stolen bases this year.

Louisville had 184(!) attempts this year and also had almost 500(!) more at-bats than we did. Those are obviously not end all be all stats but the more opportunities you get to score runs, the more games you'll win. I don't think we were a good enough team this year to rest on our laurels and expect the wins to come our way. Be aggressive. Manufacture some runs when you're having an off-game offensively. Or, go **** the bed against a team with the 2nd worst ERA and W/L record in the conference to lose yourself a shot at a title. Whatever floats EA's boat.
