ACC POWER RANKINGS: Heading Into Week 6

October 7, 2022
1,319

Here is our take on the Atlantic Coast Conference heading into week six of the season.

NOTE: Last week’s ranking is in parenthesis for each team.

1. Clemson

Probably the easiest spot to pick this week after Clemson picked up wins over Wake Forest and NC State.  The Tigers are back as the definitive team to beat in the ACC.

This Week: @Boston College

2. Wake Forest

Wake was impressive in going down to Florida State and upsetting the Noles, a game FSU was favored in.  The Deacs have it rolling offensively and were opportunistic on the defensive side.

Next up is Army and the triple option.

This Week: Army

3. NC State

NC State checks in at No. 3 after losing a 10-point game at Clemson.   What’s encouraging for the Pack is while they didn’t play well, State was able to remain competitive against the Tigers despite not forcing any turnovers or major problems.

This week is huge for the Pack.

This Week: Florida State

4. Syracuse

Syracuse could arguably be higher as they and Clemson are the only two remaining undefeated teams in the league.  Now the Orange is able to rest up this week and prepare for a home matchup against NC State.

This Week: Bye Week

5. Florida State

Florida State had a chance to really make a statement at home against Wake Forest but couldn’t get it done.  Now they’ll look to try and snap NC State’s home winning streak.

This Week: @ NC State

6. Duke

Duke has been, by far, the most surprising team in the league and were terrific last week in the 35-17 win over Virginia.

They are a legitimate factor in the ACC Coastal race.

This Week: @ Georgia Tech

7. North Carolina

North Carolina did what was expected against Virginia Tech – offensively overwhelm a bad Virginia Tech team.

This weekend we’ll learn a lot about North Carolina as Miami is coming off a bye and needs a victory.

This Week: @ Miami

8. Pittsburgh

It gets tough now slating these teams with Pitt looking terrible last weekend in a shocking home loss to Georgia Tech.

I expect them to bounce back on Saturday vs. Virginia Tech.

This Week: Virginia Tech

9. Miami

The bad news for Miami is the Canes have two straight losses. The good news: none were in the ACC, as Miami’s about to play their first league game of the season.

North Carolina won’t be easy, but this is a game Miami should win.

This Week: North Carolina

10. Boston College

BC upset Louisville at home with Phil Jurkovec playing his best game of the season.

Can the Eagles do the same this weekend against the Tigers?

This Week: Clemson

11. Georgia Tech

How did Tech’s players respond to the firing of their head coach?  They went on the road and shocked Coastal favorite Pittsburgh.

Big, big win for Tech, and interim coach Brent Key is clearly coaching to get the full-time role.

This Week: Duke

12. Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech should probably be lower, but I’m not going to do it just yet.  That’s more about the two below the Hokies, though.

This Week: @Pittsburgh

13. Virginia

While Virginia’s defense is improved and the run game has stepped up as well, Brennan Armstrong is really struggling.  Can he figure it out at home this weekend against Louisville?

This Week: Louisville

14. Louisville

This is a spite ranking... what is going on with Louisville?  To lose at Boston College?  That’s not good for Scott Satterfield.  It’s now a point where you can question if he’ll make it through the year.

He better not lose this weekend.

This Week: @ Virginia
