“I’ve done it before. It was good. You can see things probably a little bit better and don’t have to process information and think of calls because you can see it and process it as it happens -- so that you can think of the next thing in advance. You miss having that one-on-one communication with the guys, the quarterbacks, the O-line, and seeing the look of people, what they need, and what they don’t need. Sometimes, that’s as important or more important than calling the right play. It’s making sure they feel good about what’s going on. But it was good.”
“They’re a big, long, physical team that runs well, and I know they’ll play hard. Their head coach [Joey McGuire] and I are really good friends. We were high school coaches together years back. He’s going to have them ready to play and play hard, and we’ve got to certainly protect our house. We’re playing at home and have a wild, crazy crowd. Players are going to be excited, and we’ve got to do a good job. They’re a really good, sound, physical, fast football team.”
“On their 22-man two-deep [depth chart], they’ve got 14 seniors or grad seniors. There’s only seven underclassmen on defense. Playing against our defense that has a lot of seniors and older guys certainly sets us up, but it is two different defensive styles of football in terms of front, coverage, and whatnot. It’s a lot about technique, fundamentals, and assignments. Playing our defense, it’s different than theirs, but as far as personnel and age, it certainly helps us."
