SUN BOWL BREAKDOWN: Arizona State

Here is an in-depth look at NC State's opponent in the 2017 Hyundai Sun Bowl, Arizona State.

Arizona State posted a 7-5 overall mark and finished 5-3 in the Pac-12.   

Offensively, the Sun Devils are led by senior tailback Demario Richard, who has rushed for 977 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.

  He finished the season strong, rushing for over 100 yards in each of the final four regular season games.  Richard totaled 165 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in the finale against rival Arizona. 

Arizona State averages 31.7 points per game, and the passing attack is led by junior quarterback Manny Wilkins.  Wilkins has passed for 2,918 yards with 17 touchdowns and just five interceptions.  A dual-threat, he's also rushed for 274 yards and another six scores.

Sophomore N'Keal Harry is the team's top wide receiver.  At 6-foot-4 and 216 pounds, Harry totaled 73 catches for 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns.

Defensively, the Sun Devils have struggled at times this season but are led by junior linebacker Christian Sam, who has totaled 127 tackles and 9.5 tackles for a loss in 12 games.

He led the Pac-12 in tackles while averaging 10.58 tackles per game.

Arizona State has also been disruptive up front, totaling 35 sacks in 12 games.  Senior linebacker Alani Latu led the team with seven sacks, and junior defensive lineman JoJo Wicker paced the Sun Devils with 12 tackles for a loss.
