“For me personally, I wouldn't say I'm a mentor, like a mediator. I look at myself as a mentor, but if someone's going through something, me being my sixth year on the team, I feel like I've had enough experiences where if I see someone going through something or I see somebody about to go through something, it's easy to branch off to them and tell them like, ‘Hey, man. Look, I see you headed this way.’ You need to redirect them to a different path so they can find success.”

“It feels like a high school vibe to me. So talking to a young guy, I feel like it's no different than me talking to a sixth-year senior. We're all a family here. We all hold the same standard for each other, so it's just normal.”

“That just takes me back to my experiences. I don't want a young guy to have to experience something bad if he doesn't have to. If I've already been through it and I can veer him away from that path so he could find success from it early, then I would do that.”

“It feels great. I wouldn't even go into it this morning. We've actually been on it for the past few days, so we got a headstart on it and it just feels good to finally be planning for somebody other than our defense. So it feels good.”

“Leary's my guy. We know Leary is cool, calm, and collected. One thing about Leary, whatever's going on, you'll never catch his palms sweaty. I think that's the best thing about Leary. He’s always cool, calm, and collected.”

“To see him build that and just become a vocal leader and a vocal presence in the locker room. He's been a great deal. He helps out a lot, so it's a good deal.”

“Like I said, his palms are never sweaty, but those situations you see on Saturday, when we go down to Pitt and we play Clemson in double overtime, when we look at those situations, we don't view it as hard because practice is already hard. We run over those scenarios as many times as possible, so when we get there, the game situation is almost easy. So that's how we view it.”

“It's a big deal. We view every game as a big deal. We try and approach every game with a 1-0 mentality and just to keep the team first. We know if we go in there and we play assignment-based football, we get down to ECU, everything will take care of itself.”

“”We know it's going to be rocking and rolling, but that's why we play football for. It's going to be a fun experience.”

“ECU plays hard. They're fast to the ball. They're aggressive off the line. We like what we see from them. We're hoping it's going to be a great game.”

“I feel like my leadership role has really expanded. When I first got here, I was kind of reserved, and being able to branch out to a spotlight where I'm able to be a leader, which has happened just a month to years. It just doesn't happen overnight. You have people showing you the way. So you just take little tidbits and just try and build off what other people show you.”

“Another thing I feel like I've built with my patience. What I was talking about earlier, when you finally first get in the door, you always rush to the future. But once you get older, you realize you can slow things down by just preparing out your day, having a routine.”

“Like I said, their defense, they have an aggressive front. They get to the ball fast, but we're looking to get out there. I hope it's going to be a great game.”

“We heard it's going to be crazy down there. We heard their fans are crazy, but that's what we play football for, so it's going to be fun. It's going to be a fun time.”

‘With camp, it's a grind. We know it's a grind. I wouldn't necessarily call it dog days. We're just trying to stack the days and trying to build days. Stack a day on a day, and hopefully we can just get better. Continue off from there on an upward path.”

“You go into your meeting room, you get your assignments, and the main thing is being able to take it from the meeting room and take it to practice and build days. That way you don't want to come out and have too many mental errors and things like that. Just keep trying to stack the good stuff on top of good stuff.”

“Oh, it's great. You talk about the veteran group. I feel like we're veteran across the board on both sides of the ball. So it feels like if you can play fast, like playing fast makes the game a lot more easier. So I just feel like with that camaraderie that we have built up, we just keep stacking those days, like I said, and just keep building our camaraderie. We already had a veteran group, so it's like we all have a one-track mindset. We're all speaking the same language, so it's been pretty good.”

“Oh, man, I love AB. He's like our high-energy guy. He can come in a room; he can change your entire energy. He's a fun guy to be around. I love AB. That's my guy.”

“Y'all the ones making the report. Y'all know how the D-line is looking up. It's great, man. It's like iron sharpens iron every day. I love that group. It's always a competition. There's no days off. You come out there loafing, somebody going ... you going to get got.”

“Oh, I love my group, too. This is my sixth year here. I feel like as far as depth goes, this is the most depth we've ever had since I've been here. So it's great to know there's no drop off. If someone goes down, there's going to be no drop off. The next guy can come in and be ready to stack and just keep going.”
