BOWL PROJECTIONS: Where Will NC State Go?

December 3, 2017

The bowl picture is clearer after Clemson's win over Miami in the Atlantic Coast Conference title game, and NC State should learn today where they will be playing over the holidays.

The league currently has 11 teams (including Notre Dame) eligible for bowls and the ACC has tiered the bowl tie-ins for selection purposes.  Here is a look at all potential bowl tie ins for the ACC.

Bowl (or Tier) Team Date Location
Sugar (CFB Playoff) Clemson 1/1 New Orleans, LA
Orange Miami 12/30 Miami, FL
Citrus TBA 1/1 Orlando, FL
Camping World TBA 12/28 Orlando, FL
TaxSlayer OR Music City (Tier I) TBA 12/29-30

Jacksonville, FL

Nashville, TN

Belk (Tier I) TBA 12/29 Charlotte, NC
Sun (Tier I) TBA 12/29 El Paso, TX
Pinstripe (Tier I) TBA 12/27 Bronx, NY
Military (Tier II) TBA 12/28 Annapolis, MD
Independence (Tier II) TBA 12/27 Shreveport, LA
Quick Lane (Tier II) TBA 12/26 Detroit, MI

What does it all mean for NC State?

At 8-4 overall and 6-2 in ACC play, the Wolfpack is locked into the Tier I bowls.  The Wolfpack could be selected to participate in the Citrus or Camping World, but those bowls will likely select Notre Dame and/or Virginia Tech if options.

The Tier I bowls will work together to select/slot teams based on a variety of factors with a draw breaking any ties.

According to sources, there is a belief that NC State will likely end up in the Sun Bowl or the Belk Bowl.  However, all options remain on the table.  The Wolfpack has submitted preferences to the Atlantic Coast Conference, but ultimately the bowls will make their picks.

According to a source, the school ADs will be notified this afternoon via conference call of their bowl bid.

Here is an updated look at where some of the latest bowl projections have the Wolfpack playing over the Holidays.

Needle is tilting towards NY and Pinstripe Bowl
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. Jim Valvano.

I may be biased but I wouldn't take VA tech above us .

We got the royal screw job on this. Should have been above Louisville and Virginia Tech for the Florida Bowls. A big bunch of BS.

I won't be going to El Paso.
