“It was a tough process going through this recruitment trying to find out what school was right for me. When I saw NC State, I saw the roster, a great program, a great facility, and a great culture here. I was like, ‘This is the place I want to be.’”
“I definitely reached out to [NC State] when I was starting to open my recruitment. I actually had a list of schools I really wanted to go to, and this was one of them.”
“Just taking a further look into this program and seeing the guys around here, even meeting some of the guys, I saw that this was definitely a place that I wanted to be.”
“I was definitely dead-set on finding a new place. There wasn’t anything bad about Charleston Southern. Charleston Southern’s a great place. I loved the relationships with the teammates I had there. It was just time for a change.”
“It’s been amazing. [Devin Leary] is a professional. He comes in here and works everyday. Just to see him spin it out there, it’s incredible. I think I can throw the football, but he can really spin it out there. To see him go in here, in the film room, and to see what it takes to be a highly professional quarterback in Division I, it’s definitely helping me, and I love working with him.”
“I would say [the biggest adjustment is] definitely the playbook. I came from the Air Raid which has very simple plays where you get it out, expand, and get back on the ball. Here, we have designed runs, read progressions, and read coverages. I think Coach [Tim] Beck has done a great job with mentoring me and M.J. [Morris], leading us, and making sure we’re ready to go.”
“I think some of my strengths include being able to make plays when plays aren’t available and taking what the defense gives. There’s a lot I have to learn, but I’m doing a lot better with that now.”
“[Playing against NC State’s defense in practice] has helped a lot. You’re not going to [see] defenses out there like ours. They say practice fast so it slows the game, so that’s exactly what we’re doing now.”
“Since you were a kid, you always wanted to play at the biggest level possible. Since I’ve been at Charleston Southern, we played at many different FBS programs. Going in as an FCS team, you always want to go in, compete, and win, but sometimes you’re not at your best to compete against those teams. You don’t have the matchups that a Division I has against another Division I. Now, man-on-man, you can see who’s better. You go into a game expecting each team wants to win and can win."
