RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's basketball head coach Kevin Keatts announced Friday that the Pack has added Jarkel Joiner for the 2022-23 season.

"I'm really excited to add Jarkel to our program," Keatts said. I love the way he plays. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and he's extremely quick with great athleticism. He's also an elite scorer and is a good defender, as well.

Off the court, he's going to make a difference in our locker room from the moment he gets here. He's a natural born leader and people gravitate to him. He's got a great personality and he's just an all-around good person. I can't wait to get him here in Raleigh."

Joiner comes to the Pack from Ole Miss. He played two seasons for the Rebels, leading the team in scoring last season with an average of 13.2 points per game. Joiner scored in double figures in 15 games, including a season-best 33 points against Alabama on Feb. 9. The Oxford, Miss., native made 35 three-pointers in 22 games, shooting 34 percent from three-point range and shot 82.5 percent from the foul line. He was second on the team with 51 assists and his 1.2 steals per game average was third-best on the team.

Joiner ranked second on the team in scoring (12.0 ppg.) in the 2020-21 season. He scored in double figures in 16 games, including five games of 20 or more points. He tallied a season-high 26 points in the Rebels' SEC Tournament game against LSU. His free throw percentage of 84.5 percent was third-best in the SEC. He earned a spot on the SEC's Community Service Team and was named to the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll.

Joiner came to Ole Miss after two seasons at CSU Bakersfield. He started all 34 games for the Roadrunners as a sophomore in the 2018-19 season and averaged 18.6 points per game in league play. He was the first player in program history to lead the WAC in scoring during conference games. He was a First Team All-District 6 selection by the NABC and earned First Team All-WAC honors. He set Bakersfield's single-season records for points (532), scoring average (15.6) and field goals made (208).

As a true freshman in the 2017-18 season, he started 27 of 30 games and led CSU Bakersfield in scoring nine times to finish third on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game.

Joiner graduated from Oxford High School in Oxford, Miss. He averaged 36.5 points per game as a senior for the Chargers which was the fourth-highest scoring average in the nation. He was named the 2017 Mississippi Boys Basketball Player of the Year by the Daily Journal.
