NC State guard Terquavion Smith met with the media via Zoom following the Wolfpack’s 89-76 loss to Florida State Saturday afternoon.

Smith led all scorers with 30 points on 11-for-23 shooting from the floor, 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. Now with 96 threes for the season, the Greenville, N.C. native moved past Duke legend J.J. Redick for fourth place on the ACC’s single-season freshman three-pointer record list.

On his personal success despite the loss heading into the ACC Tournament...

Honestly, I’m proud of myself, but that’ s the last thing I’m looking at. The record doesn’t really affect me, but I’m proud of myself. I’m worried about the team, and I’m hoping we can push through and come together in the tournament.

On the team’s feelings on potentially getting something going in the tournament…

Around this time, anything can happen, possibly. There’s always something around this time in college basketball. I feel like we have a good chance. Everybody’s really starting 0-0, if I’m being honest.

On the biggest reason for the loss today…

I would have to say we gave up a lot of transition points. It was something we talked about heavily in film and something that we stressed to go over everyday leading up to this game. I think we gave up at least 20-plus transition points, so that was probably one of the main things.

On what was attributed to the transition points allowed…

I feel like our balance is messed up when we’re taking shots. People crash. Some people try to get a quick steal. We weren’t just getting back right after the shot.
