Top Recruit Payton Wilson Has Opened Up His Recruitment
Hillsborough (NC) Orange star linebacker Payton Wilson has decommitted from North Carolina and opened back up his recruitment.
Wilson is regarded as a consensus four-star recruit and one of the top linebackers in the country. This season he totaled 103 tackles and 10 sacks in just eight games, prior to tearing his ACL in October.
The US Army All-American Bowl selection is also a finalist for the US Army National Player of the Year Award.
Wilson has already taken official visits to NC State and Notre Dame, and he will be a mid-year enrollee so he has to finalize his decision in the upcoming weeks.
He took an unofficial visit to NC State for the Syracuse game and officially visited the Wolfpack when State played Clemson.
"It was a really good visit," Wilson said. "I enjoyed going out with the guys and hanging out. I spent a lot of time with Thayer Thomas and Nyheim Hines. We hung out a lot, and Saturday night Drake [Thomas] came out with us because that is Thayer's brother. It was a good time.
"I'd been to a few games at State before and they are always sold out, but that game was different. The Clemson-NC State game... the atmosphere was crazy. It was amazing, on a different level than other games I'd been to at State."
Inside Pack Sports will have more on Wilson in the near future so stay tuned!
