Terquavion Smith Named ACC Co-Freshman of the Week

NC State men's basketball guard Terquavion Smith was named ACC Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday.

ACC men's basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.

This is the second consecutive week Smith has earned Freshman of the Week honors from the ACC.

Smith shares the honor this week with Notre Dame's Blake Wesley, who scored 14 points and hit the game-winning shot in the Fighting Irish 66-62 win over 10th-ranked Kentucky on Saturday.

Smith opened the week with 14 points and four rebounds in the Pack's win 65-48 win over Bethune-Cookman.

On Sunday, the Greenville, N.C., native scored a career-high 21 points as the Pack dropped a heartbreaker to top-ranked Purdue in overtime.

Smith led NC State with eight points in the first half and then took over the game at the beginning of the second half, opening the final period with a four-point play and then hit another three-pointer a few minutes later that helped NC State open up a 13-point lead midway through the second half.

Smith hit three triples in both games and now is tied with Jericole Hellems for the most on the team with 22.

For the season, Smith is averaging 12.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game and is third on the team in assists with a 2.1 per game average.

Smith and his teammates return to action Friday when they face Richmond in the Basketball Hall of Fame Shootout in Charlotte. The game will tipoff at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on the ACC Network.
