Four From NC State Earn Weekly ACC Honors Following Win Over UNC
RALEIGH, N.C. – With the Pack's last-minute dramatic 34-30 comeback over UNC this past weekend, came four weekly ACC awards for the performances by NC State players in that game.
Devin Leary – ACC Quarterback of the Week
Leary completed 19 of 30 passes for 247 yards and threw for four touchdowns in the Wolfpack dramatic win over UNC. That game-winning TD pass was his 35th of the season, which broke Philip Rivers' single-season school record. Also became one of three QBs in ACC history to throw for 3,500 yards and 35 TDs in a single season.
NC State got the ball with 2:04 on the clock, down 9 points. After being sacked for 8 yards, Leary hit Emeka Emezie who scored on a 64 yard catch-and-run After the Pack recovered the insides kick, Leary got the ball back with 1:33 left and down 2 before hitting Emezie on a perfectly placed ball in the front corner of the end zone.
Emeka Emezie – ACC Wide Receiver of the Week
In his final game at Carter-Finley Stadium, and with the Wolfpack trailing by nine with just under two minutes left to play, Emezie caught two touchdown passes on back to back possession to give the Wolfpack the win. The TD passes were for 64 and 24 yards - the game-winner was a catch in the corner of the end zone with just 1:09 left to play. For the game, had five catches for 112 yards – 3 for 100 yards in the fourth quarter alone.
Daniel Joseph – ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week
Also in his final home contest, Joseph tallied a career high 10 tackles in the win over UNC, he was the team's leading tackler. He also had 1.5 sacks, one was on the 3rd & 11 play in the first quarter that led to a blocked punt. Joseph also caused a fumble in the win.
Jordan Houston – ACC Specialist of the Week
Houston blocked a punt that was recovered for an NC State touchdown just 1:23 into the win. It was his first career blocked kick. He also returned three kickoffs as the up-back for 72 yards, with a long of 37.
Both Leary and Emezie earned their honors for the second time this season.
