NC State just landed a huge commitment from Ypsilanti (MI) Ypsi Prep center Shawn Phillips‍.

Listed at 6-foot-11 and 260 pounds, Phillips is considered one of the top true post players in the 2022 class.  He can impact on both ends of the floor.

"I'm the type of player that gets the job done on both ends,” he said.  “I can score the ball, but I can also block shots and rebound with good post defense.  I'm a traditional big; that's why they call me Baby Shaq."

Late last month he cut his list to three schools: NC State, Ole Miss, and West Virginia.

“Those three have all showed love,” Phillips said.  “Really a whole lot of love before Peach Jam, during Peach Jam, during my school season... they’ve all said promising things to me.  I felt those schools would help me take my game to another level.”

Ultimately, he picked NC State.

"They told me that I can come in and compete to replace Manny Bates,” Phillips said.  “I mean it’s huge.  It's a legendary school in a legendary conference, and coach Keatts is a great guy. We either text or talk everyday.”

Wolfpack assistant coach Mike Summey headed up the big man's recruitment.

"Coach Summey is my guy," Phillips added.  “On the official he was making sure I was good from the moment I got off the plane to the moment I left. He's just an all-around great guy.”

Phillips picked NC State over offers from West Virginia, Ole Miss, Illinois, Pitt, Virginia Tech, and Cincinnati, among others.

Inside Pack Sports will have more shortly from Phillips on his decision, so stay tuned!
