Jonny Butler Named ACC Player Of The Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior outfielder Jonny Butler of the No. 23 NC State baseball team has been named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
This is the first weekly honor of his career as the Channahon, Ill., native played a critical role in the team's 4-0 record last week, which was highlighted by a series sweep at then-No. 16 Pittsburgh.
Butler, who is currently the ACC's leader in batting average with a .387 clip, batted .500 on the week going 9-for-18 with a double, triple and three home runs. He additionally compiled a 1.167 slugging percentage and .526 on-base percentage while driving in six runs and scoring seven of his own.
In the Wolfpack's series against the Panthers, he batted .500 and homered in back-to-back games. He additionally turned in a stellar performance on the base paths as he swiped a bag in each of the three games, including a steal at home in Saturday's 9-7 victory to clinch the series.
Butler has had one of the hottest bats among the NCAA in recent weeks as he has turned in eight consecutive multi-hit games and multi-RBI performances in six of them. In that span he has homered on four separate occasions and scored two or more runs in five of those games.
NC State will wrap up its regular season this week when it hosts Florida State May 20-22 at Doak Field at Dail Park in a three-game series. Thursday and Friday's games will be a 6:30 p.m. first pitch while the finale Saturday will begin at 1 p.m.
