Wolfpack's Matt Willadsen named ACC Pitcher of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Thanks to his dominant complete game effort on Sunday, Matt Willadsen of the NC State baseball team was named ACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.
This is the first honor of his career and it is the second consecutive week that an NC State pitcher has picked up the weekly award.
The Holly Springs, N.C. native tossed the first complete game of his career on Sunday in the series finale at Boston College, and did so in shutout fashion as the Wolfpack won, 7-0, to earn a series sweep on the road.
In his performance he allowed just two base hits and four walks and tallied five strikeouts. Additionally, the second-year freshman retired 15 consecutive batters between the first and sixth innings.
Willadsen is the third NC State pitcher to go the distance this year and second to throw a complete game shutout. NC State is the only school in the ACC to have at least two pitchers throw a complete game, and it is one of eight schools in the NCAA to have at least two pitchers throw a complete game shutout this season.
