TRENDS AND TENDENCIES: The Influence of Penalties In 2020

In a year in which the NC State football team experienced improvement on both sides of the ball one of the more glaring deviations surrounded penalties.  Occurring at a frustrating rate -- 114th nationally -- these penalties created erratic game flow and allowed some competitors to hang around longer than they should have.

In 2020, NC State averaged eight penalties per game which not only was poor nationally but easily served as a high-water mark during the Dave Doeren era.
