Braxton Beverly's Appeal Denied By NCAA

According to NC State, the NCAA has denied freshman point guard Braxton Beverly's appeal for immediate eligibility.  The NCAA had previously denied a waiver submitted by Beverly to play right away after leaving Ohio State this summer to attend NC State.

"Disappointed would be an understatement for how I feel for Braxton, he’s devastated.” said NC State head coach Kevin Keatts in a statement released by the school. “This is a situation where adults failed a young man and he's the one paying the price."

Beverly spent the last two seasons at Hargrave Military Academy playing for the post-graduate team. He was a two-year captain for the Tigers as the achieved a 90-3 record across his two seasons. He averaged 20.1 points, 6.4 assists and 2.2 steals in his first season at Hargrave to help lead the team to the 2016 National Prep Championship with a record of 47-1. In his final season with the Tigers, Beverly led the team to a 43-2 record and a Final Four appearance in the National Prep Championship.

The sharp-shooting guard set the Hargrave post-graduate single game scoring record with 70 points in the Tigers’ 131-86 win over Genesis Academy on February 12, 2016. Beverly connected on 14-of-20 three-pointers in the game and added six assists, four rebounds and four steals.

NC State announced on Oct. 13 Beverly’s initial request for immediate eligibility had been denied by the NCAA. The school formally appealed that decision on Oct. 23.

Beverly will be able to practice during the 2017-18 and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
