Why NC State?  “Well, my mom was diagnosed with cancer a year back, and the more I thought about it, I felt like if anything happened to her it would be better to be two hours away versus eight hours away.

“Also, I like the environment at NC State and the coaches.  They make you feel welcome, and I have a great relationship with coach Mitchell.  I remember one time I visited Virginia Tech and I was the only cornerback there. We chopped it up for a couple of hours about everything.

“Then about a month ago we had a talk and almost all we talked about was everything but football.  That’s when I knew this was for me.”

Who Did He Pick NC State Over? Tennessee (former commit), Baylor, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida State, Kentucky, Liberty, Maryland, Old Dominion, Pitt, South Carolina, Southern Miss, Toledo, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

IPS Take On Evans: “I think the thing that stood out to me was his confidence. We talked about this with Mario Love. I think both of those kids are extremely confident and players who are comfortable playing out on an island. A lot of times you don’t see that on a high school level, because teams don’t put their corners in those situations where they’re playing straight-up, chest-to-chest man coverage all over the field. And he’s doing that. 

You watch his tape, even if it’s two or three minutes, he’s a yard or so off the line of scrimmage, on a man, you’ve got him. If they throw at you, it’s one-on-one. You’re getting burned or you’re making a play. I think the more times you put a guy in that high-leverage environment, the more comfortable they’re going to be.”
