NC State's first-year offensive coordinator Tim Beck, who also coaches the Wolfpack quarterbacks, is the program's candidate for the 2020 Frank Broyles Award, which honors college football's top assistant coaches. The 56 nominees in this year's class were selected from approximately 1,270 assistant coaches representing 127 Division One programs across the country.

Under Beck's guidance, the Wolfpack offense showed great improvement throughout the season, despite losing a starting quarterback to injury. NC State averaged nine more points per game in 2020 than it did a year ago and scored 30 or more points in six different ACC games this season (last year's season high scoring output against ACC Competition was 24 points). Quarterback Bailey Hockman showed great improvement over the course of the season, averaging 311 passing yards in the last two games of the season.

The Broyles Award selection process includes the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), broadcasters, a college football hall-of-fame selection committee and current college head coaches.
