Cary Angeline: "I'm Thankful For The Opportunity"
As he finishes up his third year in the program, NC State tight end Cary Angeline will be one of 12 players honored as part of the Wolfpack’s senior day festivities prior to the regular-season finale against Georgia Tech Saturday.
Angeline spoke to the media via Zoom this week; here’s a full breakdown of everything he had to say:
What has coach Doeren’s leadership meant for the team this season?
I definitely think coach Doeren’s played a huge part in bringing the team together and really developing us. It’s not like we have a ton of new guys this year versus last year, but it’s been good to see the development of the program and coach Doeren bringing us all together to have a better year this year.
Seniors can come back and play next year if they want. Have you made any decision?
No, I have not made a decision yet. I’m focused on Georgia Tech this week and finishing the season strong.
Has it come up in conversation among the seniors about coming back?
I think it’s kind of a unique situation for a lot of the seniors, having the opportunity to come back. The guys have been talking around the building and asking around. I think a lot of guys are kind of in the same boat, just weighing out their options and seeing what’s best for them.
What does graduating mean to you, and what have your three years at NC State been like?
It definitely feels good to graduate. NC State’s a great university, and I’m definitely thankful for the opportunity to come here being a transfer student. I definitely want to thank coach Doeren for the opportunity, and it’s definitely been great here so far.
An eight-win will set you guys up for a nice bowl game, but how important is it for this team to play in a marquee bowl game?
Obviously we all want to play in the best bowl game, and definitely getting eight wins would be huge for us. I think coach Doeren told us there hasn’t been eight wins in the ACC for NC State before, so it’s pretty cool just to hear that, and we’re still going to finish strong.
How big is it for NC State to have weapons like you and Thayer Thomas inside the seams?
I think we’re just doing all we can. Some games, it’ll be more outside with Emeka Emezie or Devin Carter, or some games it’ll be me and Thayer. Sometimes it’s just what the defense is giving us and the quarterback going through their progressions.
