SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – NC State women's basketball sophomore Elissa Cunane has been announced as one of five finalists for the 2020 Lisa Leslie Award, an annual honor that recognizes the top center in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.

Cunane has also been named to the Women's National Ballot for the 2020 John R. Wooden Award, which makes her a candidate for the trophy that recognizes collegiate basketball's Player of the Year and the Wooden Award All-American Team.

The Summerfield, N.C., native was a Consensus First Team All-ACC selection for the 2019-20 season. Cunane also earned a spot on the 2020 ACC All-Tournament Team after averaging 15 points (.500 shooting) in three games to help lead NC State to its first conference tournament title since 1991.

Cunane ended the 2019-20 regular season as the only player in the ACC to average a double-double. She is also the lone player to rank in the top six in the league in scoring, rebounding and field-goal percentage. Cunane owns national top-30 marks in five categories: defensive rebounds per game (6.9), double-doubles (14), field-goal percentage (.547), free throws made (159), total rebounds (308).

As the Wolfpack's leading scorer (16.4 ppg) and rebounder (9.6 rpg), she scored 20+ points in a total of 10 outings and hit double figures in all but five games during her sophomore campaign.

Halfway through her NC State career, Cunane owns 988 points and 521 rebounds to her name. Her 308 boards this season ranks 10th in program history in single-season rebounds, and she is just 12 points away from becoming the 35th member of the NC State 1,000 point club.

Joining Cunane on the list of finalists for the award are Olivia Nelson-Ododa (Connecticut), Beatrice Mompremier (Miami), Aliyah Boston (South Carolina) and Brittany Brewer (Texas Tech).

The selection committee for the Lisa Leslie Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. Fans will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite player through Friday, March 27. The candidate who wins the fan voting will receive one additional vote for the award. The winner of the 2020 Lisa Leslie Award will be selected on March 27.
