Wes Moore Named Semifinalist For 2020 Naismith Coach Of Year
ATLANTA – Head coach Wes Moore of the 10th-ranked NC State women's basketball team (25-4) is one of 10 semifinalists for the 2020 Werner Ladder Naismith Trophy Women's Coach of the Year Award, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Wednesday.
It marks the second season in a row that Moore has been named a semifinalist for the honor. NC State's head coach was one of four finalists for this award in 2019, and he also won ESPNW's ACC Coach of the Year in 2014 and ACC Coach of the Year in 2017.
Moore guided the 2019-20 NC State squad to a 25-4 overall record and a 14-4 clip in ACC play. The Pack's 14 conference wins marked the most in a single season in program history. NC State finished the regular season ranked second in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Its spot as the two seed for the upcoming ACC Tournament is the Wolfpack's best postseason position since the 1990 conference tournament when it won the regular season and was the top seeded team.
Moore's team has spent 13 weeks of the season ranked in the national top 10. The Wolfpack has been ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation in 2019-20, the best national ranking for the program since the 1999-2000 campaign.
During his time at NC State, Moore has led the Wolfpack to a 165-62 (.727) record that includes a 77-37 (.675) mark in ACC games. Earlier this season, he earned the 700th victory of his head coaching career, which, at the time, made him the 11th active and 22nd ever NCAA Division I women's basketball coach to do so.
The semifinalist list will be narrowed down to four finalists on March 19, and fans will be able to support their favorite women's college coach by visiting naismithtrophy.com/vote between March 20 and April 1 to cast their ballot. The fan vote will account for five percent of the overall final vote. The 2020 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year will be announced on April 4.
