Trombley Named ACC Wrestler of the Week
RALEIGH, N.C. – R-Fr. Jarrett Trombley has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week after his dramatic win by fall at 133 pounds sealed the third-ranked Wolfpack’s 21-18 victory over No. 7 Virginia Tech that clinched at least a share of the ACC regular-season team title for the third straight year.
Trombley’s first-period pin of No. 22 Collin Gerardi came in the next-to-last match of last Friday night’s ACC top-10 showdown at Reynolds Coliseum as the Wolfpack rallied from a one-time 15-9 deficit. With the team score tied at 15-15, Trombley scored a cradle off a restart, leading to the quick and decisive pin just 44 seconds into the bout.
NC State (14-0, 4-0) goes after the outright ACC regular-season title in this Friday night’s regular-season finale at Duke (7 p.m., ACC Network). A Wolfpack win or a North Carolina loss at Virginia would give the Wolfpack sole possession of first place in the final ACC dual team standings.
Trombley is the fourth different NC State wrestler to win the conference honor this season. Along with Trombley, Hayden Hidlay, Trent Hidlay, and Tariq Wilson have combined to win ACC Wrestler of the Week honors seven times this season, including each of the last three weeks.
