NC State To Hire Charley Wiles As Defensive Line Coach
NC State has hired long-time Virginia Tech assistant Charley Wiles to coach the Wolfpack’s defensive line. Multiple sources have indicated Wiles is already in Raleigh and a formal announcement should come soon from the school.
Football Scoop earlier reported the potential hiring.
Wiles, who was at Virginia Tech for 24 years as defensive line coach, has coached 13 NFL draft picks and five All-American defensive linemen at Va. Tech. During his long tenure, the Hokies recorded more sacks than any program in the country.
This season Virginia Tech finished No. 17 nationally in sacks.
He has also developed strong recruiting connections in North Carolina given he has recruited the state while in Blacksburg, and he is very familiar with most of the defensive linemen on the Wolfpack’s roster. Given his North Carolina ties, he would be able to hit the ground running for NC State in the 2021 recruiting class.
Inside Pack Sports will have more on Wiles in the near future, so stay tuned!
