NC State freshman running back Jordan Houston spoke with the media Tuesday morning to talk about his first collegiate game and his adjustment into the Wolfpack's rotation.

“I had a lot of fun. It was definitely way different than high school. They hit a lot harder. Everything was moving so much faster. I can’t really run around guys as easily as it was in high school, but I think I’m adjusting pretty well.”

“They’re coming up with a lot of different ways to get me the ball. I like it a lot. They give me space and allow me to make plays. What more can you ask for?”

“I was more traditional in high school. I probably got 20 to 30 carries a game. It’s a lot different.”

“He hasn’t really told us anything about that. I guess it’s whoever’s hot. In certain personnels, certain backs go in. It’s not really a set rotation.”

“He’s going to find a way to get us touches. It really depends on how we do that week in practice. If you have a good week in practice, then you’re probably going to get more carries.”

“I worked so hard in practice. It’s hot out there too. I’ve got to stay hydrated.”

“I actually did not. I knew they were going to give me the ball out in space and in the slot. I was excited about that.”

“The first time I went in for the jet sweep, I just looked at the crowd and was like, ‘Wow. I’m here now. There’s no turning back.’ It definitely surprised me. It was more than I thought it would be.”

“I was committed to Maryland, and then obviously, Coach Durkin got fired, so I reopened my recruitment. About two weeks before signing day, Coach Doeren called me and offered me. He wanted me to come on an official visit, and basically they told me the opportunity here to play early was open. I couldn’t turn that down, and obviously that’s working. I’m happy.”

“It definitely surprised me. I was happy. I couldn’t stop smiling just knowing that my hard work was paying off. It felt great.”

“We could’ve had a better practice, but I just feel like we need to focus up more and execute plays better. You can expect a better practice tomorrow.”

“Every practice, we are helping each other. Say if one of us goes in and we don’t know the play, Ricky or Bam or someone will tell you what you have to do. Or if we’re in a meeting, if you’re confused on the play, Ricky and Trent will help me and Bam out. We’re all really good friends too. We hang out a lot. We’re always sitting together during team meals. We’re all really supportive of each other."
