Junior wide receiver Emeka Emezie
”It started in the spring. Last fall camp to spring was his biggest jump. The way he prepares himself is why he had the game he did today. I always knew it was coming for him; it was just a matter of time. I’m very excited.”
“I always tell him to just put it in my area, and I’m going to make the catch. That’s the kind of confidence I have in him and he has in me. We just got it going in the second half.”
Redshirt senior defensive tackle Larrell Murchison
”We just wanted to play aggressive. Our whole defense is aggressive. We love each other. We’ve been with each other for two or three years, and we have a lot of seniors on the defense. We have experience, and we have fun out there. Everybody does.”
“Very pivotal. It’s a new year, so we’ve got to show the people who don’t believe in us that we’re good and we’re back. We’ve got to prove ourselves. That’s something we’ve been talking about all summer long.”
Graduate student offensive tackle Emanuel McGirt, Jr.
”At the end of the day it’s just football. That’s all this is. I wasn’t anxious or nervous.”
“I think I did alright. I have some things to clean up.”
Junior cornerback Chris Ingram
“We had a gameplan. We scouted these guys really well. We knew they were going to come in with a chip on their shoulder after what we did to them last year. As a whole team, we have a goal set, and we met it today and took care of business.”
“We know nothing is going to be given, so we have to go take it. They weren’t going to give us the first one that got called back, so we had to go get the second one. That was our mentality.”
Graduate student wide receiver Tabari Hines
“I learned that I’m stronger than I thought I was, mentally. I just think that I’m a really mentally tough guy and I took all the stuff like a man.”
“I’m a smart football player so I’m always studying, always asking questions. Being that type of person allows me to play most positions.”
“I’ve got a little ups on me. I don’t think a lot of people thought I was going to play on the outside but when I first got here I said I’d play anywhere.”
“Being an older guy and being able to play all over the field it just makes me more valuable. To the team.”
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Matthew McKay
“I just try to focus on the plays and go out and execute. When it’s time to go play, just go play. That’s what Ryan used to do.”
“He paved the way for me, so I’m just following in his footsteps. I’m trying to be Matthew McKay.”
“I blocked all that talk out. I just wanted to focus and execute my game to help this team win games.”
“I feel pretty good. I have to work on some things, but I feel pretty good about what I did and what we did as a team.”
Freshman running back Zonovan Knight
“It felt pretty good. It was my first game, so I went out there a little nervous, but after my first play I scored, all the fears went away.”
“That was a surreal feeling with the crowd and the end zone. I feel like everybody wishes they could have that experience.”
Graduate student defensive end James Smith-Williams
”Yeah, we are definitely excited. It’s a big win for us to get ‘W’ number one.”
“We really just locked in and defended. We really didn’t change too much of what we were doing. We all just settled down.”
“The DBs did a great job in the back.”
“I think we took the week seriously and prepared really well.”
