COMMIT VIDEO: Patrick Matan
NAME: Patrick Matan
POSITION: Offensive Tackle
RANK: ***
VITALS: 6'5/290
NOTES: NC State had to beat out a host of regional schools for the services of Gonzaga (DC) offensive lineman Patrick Matan, and offensive line coach John Garrison played a major role in Matan’s decision.
“From when they first offered me I was in constant communication with coach Garrison,” Matan stated. “He was the one who recruited me. It was just constant communication from when they offered me to now.
“I felt very comfortable talking with coach Garrison. He’s an easy guy to connect with, and I love his coaching style. He really breaks down the fundamentals, and he’s a great teacher.”
Matan picked NC State over offers from North Carolina, Maryland, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse, among others. Why NC State?
“Going back the second time, I was really impressed with the campus itself,” he stated. “It feels like a classic college campus. I think the academic situation is great and that's big because I take it seriously.
“Also, the team has a great culture. It really is all about coach Doeren being a family-oriented guy. It feels like a place I'm welcome at and feel at home.”
Matan plays for one of the best high school offensive lines in the country, as all five of Gonzaga’s starting linemen have P-5 scholarship offers. On film their overall talent is obvious, and Matan more than holds his own.
Starting at right tackle, Matan is comfortable blocking out in space, whether pulling or getting out in the screen game. He is a solid run blocker, but his best attribute might be his pass blocking, which is a necessity for a tackle prospect.
