GREENSBORO, N.C. – After throwing a career-long seven shutout innings with a career-high 10 strikeouts in the win against top-ranked Florida State last Friday, NC State junior Jason Parker has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Parker continued his strong start to the season with another stellar performance on the mound to lift the Wolfpack to a 16-0 win in the series opener against Florida State. The Seminoles entered the game ranked among the nation’s top 10 in five major polls, including No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball.

“I thought Jason was outstanding,” head coach Elliott Avent said to the media following Friday’s win. “That was the best I’ve seen him throw all year. He’s been very, very good for us on Fridays this year.”

The New Bern, N.C., native retired the side in order twice while allowing just five hits in the contest – all singles. Parker has allowed only two extra base hits this season -- none in conference play -- and lowered his ERA to 0.68.

He's now 3-0 on the season with 26 strikeouts in 26.1 innings pitched and opponents have compiled a .198 batting average against him. Parker has also had great command, walking just six batters on the year and has not issued more than two walks in any start.

“I had just about all of my pitches working,” Parker said after his standout performance. “My fastball and slider command were there, and I had good feel for my changeup. Me and Patrick [Bailey] were on the same page and we had it firing.

“I love coming here every day and getting better. I look forward to pitching on Fridays because I know the guys are going to put up runs at the plate and my defense is going to be great behind me.”

Parker has yielded just two earned runs all season and has not given up a run in conference play.

With a record of 19-1, NC State is ranked No. 1 for the first time in program history, as Collegiate Baseball has the Wolfpack atop the rankings.

NC State will return to action Tuesday evening when the Towson Tigers head to Raleigh. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park.
