Ahoskie (NC) Hertford County defensive tackle Jaylen Smith just verbally committed to NC State after attending the Wolfpack’s Junior Day.
He confirmed the commitment with Inside Pack Sports.

As a junior Smith tallied 20 tackles, three tackles for loss, and an interception in an injury-shortened season. For fans unfamiliar, Smith gave Inside Pack Sports a scouting report on where he thinks his game is right now.
“I think I’m good getting into the backfield and I love to bull rush,” Smith said. “I know I still need to work on my hands and improve my feet. I know that’s not up to par with where I want to be.”
The Pack wasted no time making Smith a major priority for the class of 2020, and he is impressed with the Wolfpack.
“It feel like home at State when I go up there. They’ve had success with their defensive linemen. I like the surroundings and the environment at State. Coach Patrick is the coach recruiting me. I like that he’s chill and the way that we talk to each other.”
Smith is NC State’s third commitment in the 2020 class and the Wolfpack’s first defensive verbal. The 6-foot-3, 275-pounder projects to be a defensive tackle on the next level.
Inside Pack Sports will have more from Smith on his decision in the near future so stay tuned!
