Roseboro: "I Have To Do My Job"
NC State senior defensive end Darian Roseboro knows the Marshall game will be a big test for the Wolfpack.
What did you do last week once the game was canceled?
I checked in on my family and then I started watching film on Marshall right after they canceled the game. I started looking at the game plan, breaking down the offensive tackle and the offensive line and their formations. Just taking care of my body, staying active so I don’t stiffen up and stay loose and in shape.
Did you watch last years film or what they’ve done this year?
A mixture of both. The coaches put our game plan together. It’s new and old. We break it down and prepare to the best of our ability.
Are you being blocked differently this year?
I think it comes down to me beating blocks. I get a little more attention when it comes to blocks, chip blocks and things like that but I have to do my job and be in position to make play and help the team. It comes down to beating blockers and making plays.
Is being vocal something you wanted to improve on this year?
Yes because these guys are playing for the first time allowing them to be able to have somebody to talk to, because that’s something we’ve all been through. We tell them, "Settle down, do your job, focus one day at a time, focus on the details.”
How do the older guys feel about the defense right now?
I think for us our mindset hasn’t changed. Come in, dominate on defense, force turnovers, doing our job, making plays and being aggressive.
Do you think this offense is different than the first two?
They are going to take advantage of plays down field, but we have to stop the run first and then you rush the passer. Get them behind the chains, force them into third and long. Then we can have a pass rushers mentality and going to get the QB, but also contain the QB.
You’ve only allowed 20 points so far this year, but people still doubt you. Is this an opportunity to show what you can do?
I think it will. We treat every game the same, respecting each opponent. We take it one day at a time. I think the results will take care of themselves.
Which young guys have stood out through two games?
Shug’s coming along really well. Larrell Murchison is coming along. He’s an older guy, coming from JUCO, but it’s his first year. I think Alim McNeill is doing a really good job too. We have to improve on our fundamentals everyday but those guys are really coming along. We have to continue to support them and lead them.
You’ve allowed less explosive plays than last year, is that a product of better fundamentals?
I think it’s every guy doing their job and effort, whether it’s a big play or not, running to the ball. Put the ball down and play the next down, whether it’s an explosive play or not. We take it one play at a time and focusing on our job.
What’s the number one goal this week?
Stopping the run, containing the quarterback, doing our job in our rush lanes. Don’t press to make plays, just do our job in the scheme.
