Doeren Updates The Wolfpack's Injury Situation
One of the hot topics at NC State is the health of the program following the Wolfpack’s win over James Madison in Saturday’s season opener.
NC State head coach Dave Doeren touched on the topic at his weekly press conference Monday and gave an update on some of the players impacted.
On overall health of injured players: I feel pretty good. I was down in the weight room earlier and all of the guys were working out. I will not know anything really until [Tuesday]. Today [Monday] is a big healing day, but most of the stuff we were dealing with was heat-related.
Guys needed an IV, cramping and things like that -- so I talked to our nutritionists, our training staff, and our strength staff. We thought we did everything right going into the game, but we still had some guys cramp -- so we have got to do some more things that way.
On Eurndraus Bryant: Eurndraus [Bryant][ is doing really well. I am sure people want to know how he is doing. He is doing great. He will practice [Tuesday] so he is fully cleared.
On Jakobi Meyers: Jakobi [Meyers] is doing good also. He just needs to get his body back -- he was pretty beat up after the game -- but he said he would be ready to go.
On Steph Louis: During training camp his hamstring was bothering him and then it got better. Then on Wednesday it got tight on him. We were hopeful, with not doing anything with it until Saturday, that he would be ready. He tried to warm it up, but it was still tight.
I think he will be fine for this week, but we won’t know [until] he goes out there tomorrow and we see how he is feeling.
On Dylan Autenrieth and ultimately Dylan Parham: It could be this week. When you lose Cole Cook and Jaylen Samuels at tight end, and then we brought in Cary [Angeline] who is not eligible yet, then Dylan Autenrieth and Dylan Parham are out, that is five guys.
So that position was light in the beginning, and [Damien] Darden and [Thomas] Ruocchio were the guys we went [with]. They were both playing in their first college football game. There is a lot they have got to get better at.
It would be great to get those guys back and it is day-to-day. It really is with both of the guys I am talking about in Parham and Autenrieth. We will see where we are at [Tuesday].
