Murchison: "I Feel Great"

Redshirt junior defensive tackle Larrell Murchison talks with Inside Pack Sports about the improvements he has made, the upcoming season, and much more. 

How has camp been going?
It’s been good. I feel like I’ve improved on a lot of things since spring. Coach Patrick gave me a lot of stuff to improve on. I’ve made sure I’m taking care of each step-by-step and day-by-day.

How did your redshirt year benefit you?
I felt like the ups and downs of the redshirt year helped me a lot. We had a lot of older guys last year so the focus was on them.

While they were out winning games and we were out supporting them, I’m out there trying to perfect my craft so I can be better the next year and show it on the field.

You’ve added weight. Was that a goal?
A huge goal. I came in at 270 and they’ll felt like I had to get bigger to play in the ACC so that’s what I focused on during the summer, getting my weight up to 295 pounds. Just keep pushing with this weight and being able to get stronger and add muscle.

Are you at the weight you want to be at?
Yes sir. I feel great. Coach Thunder and his staff have done a great job with us during the summer making sure we meet our individual goals so I feel great.

How is the competition at defensive tackle going?
It’s going good. We put a couple people in different spots and let them play. Just learning our craft everyday, picking up the defense, being smart on defense, making plays and adjustments. It’s great competition.

Who are some of the younger guys who have caught your eye?
Derrick Eason, he tries to get better every day. Alim McNeill is behind me, he keeps getting better everyday, he’s focusing on the little things to be able to play for us this year. Davontae McCrae he’s going to be great.

How has Ibrahim Kante looked?
That man right there is going to be a monster. At his weight right now, he does incredible things that catch your eyes. He’s going against the ones doing the same thing. He’s definitely made a big improvement.
