IPS FILM ROOM: Wyatt Walker's Offensive Impact
In this hoops feature, James Henderson and Jake McSwain break down various players, plays, and formations for IPS subscribers.
Today James takes an in-depth look at NC State redshirt junior center Wyatt Walker and how he can impact the Wolfpack's offense.
NC State must replace Omer Yurtseven, Lennard Freeman, and Abdul-Malik Abu from last season's squad, and one of the major additions was grad transfer center Wyatt Walker.
Walker, who graduated from Samford, missed virtually all of the 2017-2018 season due to a knee injury he has since recovered from, but it's easy to see on film why he was a coveted transfer option for several programs.
At 6-foot-9 and 240 pounds, Walker has a strong, sturdy frame, and he plays with a big-time motor. Coaches hate players who frequently need motivation, and that doesn't appear to be Walker. He plays like a self-starter, a motor guy who is competing on both ends and because of that he can overcome his athletic limitations.
Walker isn't an elite athlete, but he uses great positioning and fundamentals to be effective as a low-post scorer. He competes for offensive rebounds and has a high basketball IQ which is evident through his passing ability.
You'll see in this package how Walker can give NC State not only a legit post-up option as a scorer but also as a facilitator, which makes the Wolfpack's offense even more dangerous.
In this edition of the IPS Film Room we're going to focus solely on Wyatt Walker's offensive game, and later this week we'll take a look at how he can impact defensively. Can Walker distribute the basketball? How is he working the baseline? Does Walker establish good position on the block? Can he be a reliable offensive rebounder?
James answers those questions and much more in this edition of the IPS Film Room!
