Recruiting can be a series of peaks and valleys for any particular team. With Elizabeth City (NC) Northeastern 4-star DB J.R. Walker‍, he’s been the exception. Throughout most of the process he has consistently listed NC State as the team to beat.

This past Friday Walker was back at NC State and he confirmed with Inside Pack Sports that nothing has changed. In fact, the bond with the Pack has only gotten stronger.

“NC State is sitting number one on my list right now coming in to today. It’s just a great feeling here and I get the same feeling every time. It just gets better and better every time I come.”

One of the primary driving forces behind Walker’s interest in State has been his long term relationship with CB coach George Barlow.

“Ever since the first time I met coach Barlow it’s been a great relationship and that was since my freshman year to now. It’s just been growing and growing and getting better each day. Every time we talk we laugh, we talk about football but I know he’s a good man.”

So other than NC State, who are the other main players in Walkers recruitment?

“South Carolina, UNC Virginia Tech and Duke (plus NC State) are the five I’m focusing on right now. If we don’t have anything team related next weekend I’ll be at the Freak Show.

“Right now we have an official visit set up for Sept 8th at South Carolina when they play Georgia. I had an official visit set with State during the season but coach Doeren was just talking to me about that so it might be sometime in August or July.”

As for a final decision, Walker has a set date but admits that the door is open for an earlier commitment.

“Right now I have a set date of October 13 but if I do decide to change it would be before the season starts. It would be an advantage to go ahead and get it over with so I’d go into my senior season already knowing where I’m going without all the stress but for right now the set date is October 13.”
