COMMIT ALERT: Shimko Makes It Official
Under head coach Dave Doeren, NC State has placed a ton of significance on special teams and their long snappers in particular. The Wolfpack had a chance to evaluate numerous prospects over the last couple of weeks but it was obvious that one player had jumped to the front of the Pack’s wish list. Tuesday evening Wall (NJ) standout Joseph Shimko (6-0, 210 pounds) committed to NC State.
Shimko, rated a five-star prospect and the nation’s No. 7 long snapper told Inside Pack Sports the initial offer from the Wolfpack came as a shock.
“First off, it was awesome to get that offer from NC State,” said Shimko. “I really wasn’t expecting to get it half way through the camp so it was a nice surprise. I thought my workout with State was pretty good. I mean they liked it and I thought I did pretty good when I was snapping for them.”
Shimko added that the coaches were thrilled when he informed them earlier this evening that he had decided to become the Wolfpack’s 15th commitment for the class of 2019.
“Coach Shearer was the guy that invited me to camp and then I met coach Faulkner at the camp. The coaches were excited when I committed. I talked to coach Shearer today and coach Doeren but they were both real excited.”
Shimko hopes to come back to NC State sometime in the near future for a more in-depth look at the Wolfpack but his first impression was a good one.
“I thought State was really nice. It was a beautiful campus.”
