NOTES: NC State landed a huge commitment on Friday from Wake Forest (NC) four-star linebacker Drake Thomas, who announced his decision at a 3:30 pm press conference at Heritage High School.
Thomas picked the Wolfpack over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee, Michigan, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Duke, and West Virginia among others.
A three-year starter at Heritage, Thomas totaled 112 tackles last season and has tallied over 270 tackles in his career. He also split time at running back with NC State signee Ricky Person, and Thomas rushed for 287 yards and three scores to help lead Heritage to a 12-2 record.
"The Pack has landed some talented linebackers, but I think you have to go back to a Nate Irving or Terrell Manning to find a guy with the potential of Thomas," Inside Pack Sports Recruiting Analyst Steve Williams stated. "Throw in the fact how much he's respected among the recruits of North Carolina and you're getting a commitment that will resonate across the state."
On film, Thomas is a wrecking ball at linebacker. He blows up plays behind the line of scrimmage, runs sideline-to-sideline, is strong in coverage, and his natural instincts college coaches love.
