COMMIT ALERT: Thomas Picks Pack
NC State landed a huge commitment today from Wake Forest (NC) four-star linebacker Drake Thomas, who announced his decision at a 3:30 pm press conference at Heritage High School.
Thomas picked the Wolfpack over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee, Michigan, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Duke, and West Virginia among others.
A three-year starter at Heritage, Thomas totaled 112 tackles last season and has tallied over 270 tackles in his career. He also split time at running back with NC State signee Ricky Person, and Thomas rushed for 287 yards and three scores to help lead Heritage to a 12-2 record.
"The Pack has landed some talented linebackers, but I think you have to go back to a Nate Irving or Terrell Manning to find a guy with the potential of Thomas," Inside Pack Sports Recruiting Analyst Steve Williams stated. "Throw in the fact how much he's respected among the recruits of North Carolina and you're getting a commitment that will resonate across the state."
NC State had to land Thomas because he is a player the Wolfpack has heavily recruited for two years, and he has ties to the program. His older brother, Thayer, is a redshirt freshman wide receiver for the Wolfpack, and Thomas is close friends with the aforementioned Person and 2018 signee Joseph Boletepeli, who also played at Heritage.
Thomas is NC State's sixth commitment in the 2019 recruiting class and the fifth in-state addition for the Wolfpack. Inside Pack Sports has rated him the No. 4 player in the state.
He is NC State's second linebacker commitment, joining Shelby (NC) star Jaylon Scott to form a terrific haul at the position for the Wolfpack.
Inside Pack Sports will have more from Thomas on his decision in the near future so stay tuned!
