2016 TOP PLAYS: Nyheim Hines

NC State junior Nyheim Hines is one of the most explosive players in the ACC, and he proved it while lining up at slot receiver, tailback, and kick returner last year.

This season he's expected to primarily play in the backfield while also handling all return duties.

One of my favorite players, and had the opportunity to speak with him one-on-one at the meet the players after the event was over. What impresses me most from the video is that I had a picture of Hines as being the track star who does well in football because of speed. But I didn't realize how strong he is. Rarely does the first tackler get a clean take down. And Hines was routinely plowing over or pushing off defenders. Looking forward to a great year from this young man.

I noticed the same thing......he doesn't go down after initial contact. Not only is he elusive to where he makes the defender miss, he breaks tackles and get the extra few yard. Wonder what his YAC is.

Yeah, I didn't remember him being such a tough runner. He also is more elusive than you'd assume. People assume track stars (like Whitted or Graham) are more straight ahead runners, but Hines is the total package of toughness, speed, and elusiveness.
