On seeing success to open ACC play after a rocky start to the season…
KP: I think it's just sticking to what we talk about at practice. [Wes Moore] says, “It's a new season. It's a new opportunity to just show the team we truly are.” We've all just been having that in the back of our head which is why we've had this turnaround.
On Zoe Brooks’ leadership…
DL: Zoe is definitely a leader. I feel like, at practice, she really shows how you should be able to play in the game. She's really someone who I look up to, especially being a guard. I would say her being consistent has always been something that we need, and she's been that.
On Zamareya Jones’ efficient shooting in the first quarter…
KP: Z is always just consistently, not only a hard worker, but always just like an energy kid. She makes shots like that every day at practice, and she also brings energy every day. That's what was expected.
On creating separation in the second and third quarters…
KP: After the first quarter, Coach talked about how we were on track to give up a lot of points, and that's not what we're here to do, so he just talked about making sure we knew our scout and being where we're supposed to be on the court, and we kind of just shut them down after that.
On holding teams to single-digit quarters like Georgia Tech’s three-point third quarter…
DL: I feel like that started all in practice. He's been preaching defense, defense, defense all the time. He's been really strict on that, and we've taken that challenge to know show it out in the game, and that's what we're doing. I just feel like we've really taken pride in the defense.
On Jones emerging as a leader…
KP: For sure, I think it's still a younger team, but I think a lot of the girls show their leadership through just their effort and energy, especially through practice. I think that just gives people something to look up to and respect.
On playing alongside Pierre…
DL: I look up to her. She’s like my big sister, for real. We’re both from the 4-8-0, and I just feel like we just love to laugh. I’m always looking up to her when she's hooping. We talk all the time. She’s just really fun, and to see her show out in these games, it's really just mesmerizing. I just love her.
On learning from Pierre, Brooks, and Maddie Cox…
DL: They really just paved the way for me. I look at them consistently in practice, even in these games, and in big moments. I'm always just analyzing the game. I watch film after. I really just look up to them, so I'm striving each and every day at practice and in these games to try to try to be better and improve my game.
